Amanda Delecca

Originally from Australia, I've been travelling for 15 years and found myself coming back to Nepal time and time again. These days Kathmandu is home and I get to show people around this incredible place, introducing our very talented local guides, Sherpas and people along the way who make each and every visit to Nepal unique and special.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Everything Nepal! Cultural visits, trekking tours, mountain biking, relaxation and adventure: everything in between or a combination of them all! My specialty areas mostly stick to the path - you won't find every man and his dog there, but you also won't need your expedition suit. "

How did you get involved in travel?

"After travelling to Nepal in 2010 and having an awesome experience, I started think that that's what I wanted to 'do'. Like what I REALLY wanted to do. Show people around an awesome place and send them home happy. It turns out that the company I booked my tour with in Nepal not only delivered an awesome tour but also had interesting recruitment techniques. After filling in a post-trip feedback form I mentioned in an email that I was interesting in a change of career and I think tourism is it. The response:
"So, when do you want to start work?
Seriously."
WOW! After recovering from the moment that my heart skipped a beat I had a million questions - but what work? And where? How does that even work?
A year later I returned to Nepal, to the company that I had toured with the previous year and here I still am!
Moral of the story - be careful travelling with us, you might never leave! ;)"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Probably my most memorable travel experience, strangely, was right at home. Growing up in Australia, our family hosted many exchange students and each time we had a new international 'brother' or 'sister' to stay for a year, we not only got a new member to our family, but we also got to know all about where they came from. Discovering the delights (and dislikes!) of things such as Thai fish sauce and herbal tea from southern Brazilian were certainly memorable and I now have 'family members' all over the world!"

Return to Langtang - 8-Day Trek

The Langtang Valley has long been a favorite trek due to its expansive views, interesting Tamang culture, relatively gentle pace and accessibility from Kathmandu. The 2015 earthquake and subsequent landslide had an enormous effect on the region, but aid and reconstruction have recently reopened this valley to trekking again. Not only is it still a beautiful trek, your visit will also provide vital support for local livelihoods.

Fantastic trip. Amanda did a great job getting everything set up for me. And Suman was an excellent, conscientious, and able guide. I was very happy with everything.

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Brad, thanks for your great review, it was our pleasure! Sorry we didn't get to meet while you were here, it was great to hear from you along the way though and know that everything was going well and hearing your anecdotes like when your guide becoming a temporary tea house owner, that gave me a giggle :)

Cheers,
Amanda

We were delighted with the quick response to our request on kimkim for a short trek in Nepal. We had a delightful time and the company that supported us was wonderful! They did a great job in setting up our trip, responding to numerous questions and then being at every hand off along the way in our trip. Our guide was wonderful, helpful, patient and filled with good information.

Amanda was most helpful. We had a lot of last minute questions and she was very responsive. At the end of the trip she made sure she got all of our feedback. A very positive experience!

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Sabrina, thanks so much for your review and for taking the time to give your feedback at the end of your trip, this helps us make sure that we and our suppliers are delivering the best quality trips and to make changes/improvements for the future. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with Pasang :)

Our 3 generational family trip into the Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit was absolutely stunning!! From beginning to end, we were impressed with the input from Amanda in the organisation/communication with loads of questions promptly answered. She was very friendly and helpful and met us both before and after the hike - we would not hesitate to book through kimkim again and use Himalayan Trails. Both hotels were perfectly suited in both location and budget, we particularly enjoyed 'Mums Garden' in Pokhara after the hike - a sanctuary to rest weary legs!

As for the hike itself - we were extremely grateful to our fantastic guide Chhiri. He was both very professional and knowledgeable and good company. He and the two porters, Sam and Siri made our hike all the more special. They did far more than meet the minimum requirements of a guide/porting service, they became good friends and went out of their way to share their culture, country and themselves with us.

17 days hiking with 3 generations couldn't have been done in a more special place. The days walking were well mixed with some longer and others shorter, when altitude became a factor. The weather was perfect which always is a bonus and the Tsum valley was probably the highlight (just ahead of Larke Pass) - The mix of monasteries and walking through ancient villages was very special. Chhiri was also very caring and conscientious with the responsibility of taking my 10yr old daughter on such a long hike. While she had done long hikes before, she'd never been to this altitude at 5100m - she loved the experience and Chhiri again took great care with all of us.

Thank you does not quite cover it!!!

Amanda was incredibly helpful, both online prior to booking in answering a myriad of questions and once in Kathmandu, meeting with us both before and after the hike. She made sure the trip was seamless from start to end and was very friendly and knowledgeable.

In wanting to take my 10yr old daughter on such a long hike and to 5100m, Amanda was very careful in giving advise and ensuring that we had a senior guide who had experience with children. This proved to be possibly the making of the hike with Chhiri being an excellent guide -and the envy of other hikers!

Thank you very much to Amanda for giving us such special memories. We would love to be back in Nepal one day!!

Hey Anna, thanks so much for your lovely review! It was such a pleasure organising your trip - 3 generations of incredible women who are genuine and humble adventurers.

Thanks again, it was my pleasure and honour xx

Pokhara short trek, Nepal

Traveler: Gill M. - Local specialist: Amanda Delecca

We appreciated the open communication and prompt replies to all our questions. Amanda very quickly gauged our interests and capabilities and planned a trip for us accordingly.

Amanda was a gem. Unfortunately I requiredhospitalisation early on in the trip. Amanda was so supportive and understanding. She guided us through the process and after resting she quickly rescheduled our trip so we could maximise our time. This involved organising an alternative trek more suited to our needs at this time. All our drivers, guides and accomodation were top class.

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hey Gill,

We're so glad that we were able to adjust your itinerary after you were sick and that your trip wasn't cut short, as we thought it might be. Even in adverse circumstances both you and Jim were such a pleasure to deal with and I was so happy to meet up with you at the end of your trip and hear that you did get to enjoy Nepal in the end and that you were able to experience the 'something special' that Kathmandu and Nepal has.

Thanks for being fantastic guests!!

Amanda :)

Khopra danda trek, Nepal - Apr 13 - Apr 21, 2017

Traveler: Fleur K. - Local specialist: Amanda Delecca

The only thing that would have made this better was that would have liked to have a trekked a little longer most days, but we realize that the trip has to account for: 1. lower fitness levels, and 2. altitude.

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Fleur, thanks so much for your review, it was great to meet you after your trek and hear in person that you had such a great time with your guide Pasang! Thanks again!

Nar and phu trek, Nepal - Apr 2 - Apr 11, 2017

Traveler: Becky T. - Local specialist: Amanda Delecca

Our guide was wonderful and Amanda was very responsive. The trek was a whole lot harder than we expected, and we didn't realize how difficult it would be with the altitude. We were glad to have chosen a trek a little off the beaten track, and had a memorable experience.

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Becky, I'm glad to hear that the choice of trek and the places you visited were what you were looking for, there's so much to see in this incredible country and we take it very seriously that it's our job to let you know what's out there, beyond the well-known trekking routes. Thanks so much for your feedback when we met after your trek, it was great to hear that you felt supported and in good hands with your guide Kancha, even when you decided to change your itinerary not go over the pass.

Cheers,
Amanda

Great guides, great itinerary

Amanda was the best and most helpful especially when things didnt go as planned. Like when the airport was closed 8-)

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hey Marlon, thanks for your review and the pics!! Great to see some of your trip. You really experienced the diversity of Nepal, from Kathmandu to Pokhara to Lumbini, from temples and cultural sites, to the natural beauty of the mountains and villages on your mountain biking excursion. The guides all commented that they had a lot of fun showing you around, we look forward to planning your next trip!

The actual trip itself was amazing - can not fault it, and the guide and porter could not have been better. There was good communication, and Amanda was helpful with all of my questions along the way. The only bit of advice I would offer is around clarity - for example, at the start (not having ever done this before) I didn't realise I was signing up for a solo/private trip. There was good communication, and Amanda was helpful with all of my questions along the way. The only bit of advice I would offer is around clarity - for example, at the start (not having ever done this before) I didn't realise I was signing up for a solo/private trip. In the end, someone joined, which made the trip 500% better than it would have been, as there were not the opportunities to talk to other trekkers at the teahouses that I imagined there would be. The other one is around timeliness - the actual details (pickup time and where etc) I didn't receive until I was en route to Nepal - a bit nerve wracking as I wasn't sure what kind of internet access I would have. Might seem silly from the point of view of someone living in Kathmandu, but I like to have everything locked in as much as in advance as possible. But these are just very minor points to consider, especially for first time trekkers, and more than made up for by the quality of the trip itself.

Aside from previous comments = always helpful, always as quick as possible in the replies, met with me prior to both trips (trek and half day trip) .

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Donna,

Thanks so much for your review - I'm really glad that we were able to link you up with your trekking partner and that it was a great experience for you both!

Manaslu circuit trek with heli drop in, Nepal - Mar 15 - Mar 31, 2017

Traveler: DANE W. - Local specialist: Amanda Delecca

We highly recommend Amanda and team. We had a fantastic trip and everything was organised seamlessly

Amanda and team were always there looking after us. We really didn't need to worry about a thing. Our trekking guide was the envy of the rest of the group's we met on the trek so we felt very well looked after and in capable and safe hands.
We highly recommend a helicopter to get you to the where the best trekking starts if your budget allows.
Amanda and her team went above and beyond to make our trip to Nepal unforgettable.

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hey Dane, thanks for travelling with us, that's great to hear that you had such a good time with your guide Chirring and that you felt you were well looked after. It was absolutely our pleasure to organise your trip, we hope to see you here again!

Caitlin and griffin’s week in nepal, Nepal - Nov 20 - Nov 26, 2016

Traveler: Caitlin M. - Local specialist: Amanda Delecca

The group chat option made planning very easy for everyone to be involved in real time, and Alex and Amanda were both always immediately responsive.

Amanda was wonderful during the planning process in making suggestions, fulfilling our requests, and providing insight and advice on the local area. Again, she was also always available to us prior to the trip, and she made a point of seeing us three times when we were actually in Kathmandu, which was totally above and beyond what she needed to do and very much appreciated.

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hey Caitlin,

It was really great meeting you and Griffin, and super cool that your friends who were visiting India were able to 'drop in' to Kathmandu and join you for a few days. Thanks for your feedback - it was absolutely our pleasure hosting you here.

Cheers,
Amanda

First trip to nepal, Nepal - Nov 8 - Nov 18, 2016

Traveler: Tas B. - Local specialist: Amanda Delecca

We had soooo much fun and learnt a lot so it might just be that these are things we know for next time but a heads up about the timing between getting to Pokhara and actually starting the trek would have bee nice, just to allow us to maybe leave more stuff behind. Then again we too way too much for the whole trip so will definitely do that better next time.

Amanda we immensely helpful and just so nice as well. She tried to accommodate all our requests and we felt very safe in her hands

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Tas,

It was such a pleasure hosting you and Ian here in Nepal - you were both so open to everything that Nepal has to offer and I'm excited about your future trekking endeavours, now that you have this new-found passion.

Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate your time and hope to see you here again!

Raylene and friends custom tour of nepal , Nepal - Nov 5 - Nov 11, 2016

Traveler: Raylene H. - Local specialist: Amanda Delecca

Our trip was near perfect and we had a wonderful time.

Our only hiccup was the trek. We understood that we would just meander through the hills slowly rising, whereas this was not the case.

Amanda was really helpful and answered our questions promptly with lots of detail.

Great to have someone with first hand knowledge.

Our only suggestion would be that she does the treks as we were told there was only a few steps. Debbie's had a knee replacement so she was quite concerned about there being steps.

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Raylene,

Thanks so much for your review! We're pleased to be able to provide you and your 3 friends a 'near perfect' trip and we're glad we were able to re-route you to the lovely Temple Tree Resort when the walk up the hill wasn't as per your expectation. Thanks again, Amanda

The land space looked amazing also but far too many other trackers and quite touristy. Happy with the choice of manaslu. The organisation regarding transport and accommodation were good, it is easi r to have your private transports Than going on the public bus and avoid the walking in on the first day to soti kola. As the days went on, we trusted more the guide and the porters. At the beginning guide was using some trainers and jeans instead of some hiking gear. He then bought hiking boots as the ones he had broken, and from day 4 onwards he had appropriate gear, including pants and down jacket. It may be our judgement, but I believe it is important guide and porters to have proper gear, it is another safety measure. Porters did almost the entire track in flip flops except the day of the pass in sneakers. They said that is what they are used to. So this would be my only remark, ensure guide and porters have the appropriate gear. The Xperience was outstanding and the guide and the porters fantastic, which definitely contributed positivity to the whole experience.
Our guide was able to answer majority of the questions that we had about Nepal and or nepali culture. This is important feature of the guide to be able to talk about the country and not only about the trek

Before the trip, communication was extremely efficient. In nepal, she was friendly and approachable. Nice touch at the end, with a meeting after the trip to hear feedback and give us a
Little survenir

Amanda Delecca, local specialist, responded to this review:

Hi Rita,

Thanks so much for your comments! It was a pleasure to help you organise your family get-together in Nepal and the wonderful Manaslu Circuit trek. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with Rishi and the crew and that him being there made a difference to your trip.

We hope to see you in this part of the world again! :)
