A while ago I was lucky enough to get a job in Iceland, and I must admit, I was completely unaware of what was ahead of me when I first set foot in the country. Working in the tourism industry allowed me to meet with travelers like myself every day, and I soon had the urge to travel all around the country on my own. Marveled by its wild beauty and its welcoming people, Iceland changed me in ways I cannot describe. I now strive to help people craft trips around Iceland, and I hope to share my passion for this otherworldly corner of the world with you.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I specialize in tailor-made trips all around Iceland, but I put special emphasis in the Snæfellsnes peninsula, the Westfjords and lake Mývatn, as I have not only visited but also lived in these places."

How did you get involved in travel?

"Travelling came to me when I least expected it. After going through some personal turmoil, I turned to travelling hoping it would help me move on. However, it did much more than that. Travelling widened my horizons and completely changed the way I live my life. Since then, I have travelled all around Europe, Morocco and Cuba, and lived in Ireland, Iceland, Mexico and France. And I can't help but notice that now, immediately after each trip I take, I'm already thinking about the next one."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I have seen the brightest auroras swallow the darkness and dance above me in Mývatn, sensed the mighty force of a glacial river carving its way through the highlands at Dettifoss, and felt the thundering voice of the Fagradalsfjall volcano making the ground below my feet tremble, and any of these could make a nearly unbeatable candidate for an unforgettable experience. But perhaps because it was my first time travelling, my fondest memory is much more humble.

The sound of a man playing an accordion on the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, over the hushed crashing of the waves hundreds of meters below, while a gentle marine breeze carried the notes away... that is a memory that will never leave me."

Húsavík Whale Watching

Near the town of Húsavík, you'll find the world-famous Skjálfandi Bay, known to be one of the best areas in the country to spot whales. Unlike in other regions where you must sail out to sea to find whales, the bay often has whales, porpoises, and seabirds just a few minutes from its harbor. This...

Glymur Waterfall Hike

In West Iceland, about a 1-hour drive northeast of Reykjavik, is Glymur Falls. Although this particular cascade used to be the highest in Iceland (at about 650 feet (198 m) tall), the recent retreating of the Vatnajokull glacier tongue created a slightly more towering waterfall, Morsarfoss!...

I think they all were exceptional especially if you are used to European hotels. We really liked the Vogasfjos Hotel which had exceptional meals which were were all farm raised. 1001 Nott in Egilsstadir and the Hofsstadir Country Hotel were exceptional. My wife stated that this was one of the coolest trips she has ever taken. My hats off to KimKim and Eric. Be aware though that things are expensive in Iceland.

We travel a lot, so we had plenty of ideas on how we wanted the trip to go. But Eric knew exactly what he was doing and planned an excellent week for us. Every day had a great selection of self-guided tours, and we also added several guided tours (the glacier hike was a highlight). The weather was good for driving, as it mostly rained. We would have had a much harder time if it was snowing or icy. But even with the rain, with proper clothing, it didn't matter (if you ski, you know). Iceland is spectacularly beautiful. Sitting in our home in New York we weren't prepared for how much all the stunning natural beauty would negate the weather and the limited daylight. It honestly didn't matter once we got started on our trip, whether it was raining, freezing, or the wind was howling.

As mentioned, Eric was a great trip planner. He is super responsive and so patient (thank you, Eric!). The only reason I took a star from the overall planning and booking is that the itinerary on the kimkim platform is tricky. The default itin is an overall daily summary, but in order to access information like your car rental, tickets to paid activities, etc, you have to go to a detailed itinerary which all three of us, including our tech savvy 18 year old daughter, found very difficult to access. It is buried in a small tab on the platform's landing page. When we landed in Reykjavik at 6AM and couldn't find our car rental info after an hour, it was hard not to be a little grumpy. But the accommodations were good, especially ending in Reykjavik. Highly recommend taking advantage of the many lagoons after long days of hiking and driving.

All the lagoons were amazing, and very different. Sky Lagoon is luxurious. The evening we went the wind was howling, the rain was coming down in sheets, and somehow, we still enjoyed the experience. It's a gorgeous setting, and after driving over 5 hours that day, it felt so good to emerge in a hot thermal bath, even with our heads getting beaten by rain.

Unfortunately, we found out that ice caves are dependent on the weather. When we went there was only one cave open, and about twenty tour groups waiting to have a turn inside. Once we finally had out turn, our group was allotted ten minutes. BUT, afterwards, we walked the black beach to see the ice flows for an hour and had one of our favorite outings the entire trip.

Planning a vacation has never been easier, thanks to having true experts to guide us (the KimKim team). We were especially pleased to learn that our travel planner, Èric, actually lived in Iceland. His familiarity with the country—its culture, terrain, and hidden gems—gave us complete confidence that we were in excellent hands.

We shared with Èric the kinds of activities we enjoy, the cultural and natural sights that were important to us, and the pace we wanted for our 22-day trip. With so much time to explore, we chose to rent a 4-wheel-drive vehicle so we could occasionally go off the beaten path and linger at our favorite places. Èric fully understood this style of travel and tailored everything beautifully.

Over the course of a year, we worked with Èric casually but consistently, and we deeply appreciated his prompt and easy communication. He is an excellent listener and wonderfully tactful as he guided us through unfamiliar territory. He created an initial itinerary as a baseline—never pushy—giving us all the time we needed to review and make thoughtful decisions. We kept the heart of his plan but added our own ideas and research, and he was always accommodating. When he had a better suggestion, he presented it diplomatically and with clear reasoning.

Throughout the planning process, it truly felt as if Èric were sitting right beside us, helping shape our journey. Once everything was finalized, he delivered a beautifully detailed and well-organized itinerary where every piece of information we might need was right at our fingertips.

Our time in Iceland was an amazing, fun, once in a lifetime trip. The accommodations chosen for us, the country’s natural beauty, the history and culture we learned about, and the wonderful Icelandic people we met made the experience truly exceptional. We couldn’t have asked for anything more—except perhaps a little more time!

We couldn’t have asked for a better planning experience and highly recommend working with Èric for an unforgettable Iceland adventure.

When we first arrived at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon the sun was shining and it was an absolutely stunning sight! The color of the water and different shades of blue coming off the floating icebergs took me by surprise-such beauty with the Vatnajökull glacier as the backdrop. It made me excited about kayaking the lagoon-a first for me to paddle amongst icebergs! But within the hour clouds took over and a light steady rain began. Suddenly the tour didn’t seem like it was going to be much fun. But our small group suited up and braved the walk with paddles in hand to where the kayaks waited. Instructions were given on safety while kayaking the lagoon and how to paddle. And I should mention that the outfitter had appropriate waterproof and warm gear for us during this wet and cold paddle trip. The weather deterred the majority of the visitors that were there earlier so we had the lagoon to ourselves. It was quiet and serene on the water and the rain stopped the moment we started our paddle. The clouds remained but didn’t take an ounce of beauty away from the experience. I had goosebumps paddling around the looming icebergs. They were pieces of artwork. Our guides were fun and informative and made safety a priority. The equipment was in very good condition, kayaks are sturdy. Our suits were a Godsend. The experience was unique and memorable. This is a good trip for people with any level of kayaking experience. I loved this experience. After our excursion we crossed the road to see Diamond Beach. Another amazing surprise!

Once we were at our location we were suited up and had a nice moderate walk to the ice caves. It wasn’t a very extensive cave but it was a great example of an ice cave and beautiful inside. Reykjavik Food Walk
Iceland

It wasn’t quite what I expected. Our guide, sorry, I don’t remember his name, was an unforgettable character and spent a lot of time talking about local history, culture, and had some great jokes to share as well. But I was there to experience some delicious unfamiliar exotic local fare and thought this would be a great cultural food introduction of Iceland as we navigated to different eateries throughout downtown Reykjavik. I’m not a foodie, but it was not a good introduction as I shortly learned throughout my travels in Iceland, having meals at small local cafes in other towns and villages. What was offered on the tour was completely subpar to what I experienced elsewhere so I have to say that the food tour failed as an example of how delicious the traditional dishes really are. The food in the country including stops at some of the fuel stations were much better and delicious. But don’t let my opinion of the tour discourage you. Walking the city, enjoying the camaraderie of our group of 10, and getting a good idea of the lay of Reykjavik under the guidance of our big burly host was worth the time in itself. And you may have a completely different opinion of the food offered on this tour. Not all taste buds are alike!

1) The day we landed in Keflavik we had a day to reorient due to the 5 hour time change. Driving was not too different from the US so that part was fairly easy.
2) The idea of doing snorkeling and hiking excursions the first 4 days of our trip was a great idea as we had the most energy to do these adventures at the beginning of the trip.
3) The food and drink recommendations were also great! The food in Iceland was superb!
4) The climbs the participants needed to perform on the Solheimajokull glacier hike turned out to be too much physically for me as I have asthma. I was able to get on the glacier yet not able to complete the climb which was disappointing. My daughter and others in the group completed successfully. I was able to complete all our other adventures.
5) We had specific excursions that Eric arranged and tickets purchased. He also included self guided things to look at and do which we did most of. This was very helpful to have these additional things to do that were discretionary.
6) My favorite and the reason I chose Iceland was to snorkel between the tectonic plates in the Silfra fissure. This was amazing! My daughter's favorites were the snorkeling and the Solheimajokull glacier hike.
7) When we arrived in Reykjavik for our last 3 nights, we didn't account for time to go to any museums. It would have been helpful to have an estimated time to allow for the self guided things to do.
8) I would not recommend the Fosshotel Nupar. It had mold in corners on the outside door and the bathroom. The Greenhouse Hotel in Hveragerdi and the Exeter in Reykjavik were wonderful.
9) We were well prepared for the weather with the suggestions we received for clothing needed for our trip.
10) We were charged for car rental which was not expected as it is not listed in the Excludes section of the itinerary. Is this correct?
10) We cannot say enough how impressed we are with the arrangements Eric made for us. There were no surprises...other than the car rental charge.

This was also amazing to learn about how the caves are formed and that they don't last long in their present form.

Agnes was our guide. She was very knowledgeable in how the caves are formed and explained how fast they change. I also enjoyed her talk on the way out about nature in Iceland; how from a lava flow slowly grow into green again. It was inspiring.
Transport
Very cool in the transport vehicle and how they have to deflate/inflate the tires.

Hi Sue!

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! I’m thrilled that you and Nikki enjoyed the snorkeling in Silfra, the glacier hike, and the mix of guided and self-guided activities - it’s wonderful to hear that the itinerary allowed everyone to have memorable experiences at their own pace.

I appreciate your comments about Fosshotel Núpar and the other accommodations; your notes about cleanliness and comfort are important, and I’ll make sure to keep these in mind for future recommendations. I also understand your point about timing for self-guided activities in Reykjavik- it’s a great reminder to provide estimated durations so travelers can better plan their days.

Regarding the car rental charge, I’m glad we clarified that it was due to the extra insurance you purchased, not an oversight on our part. It’s always good to double-check these options, and I’m happy it was resolved quickly.

It’s fantastic to hear that overall, the planning and arrangements made the trip smooth, stress-free, and memorable for you and your daughter. Your feedback helps me improve even further, and I’m so glad Iceland delivered such incredible experiences!

All the best,
Èric
