Erin Wiley

Put simply, travel makes people happy and I want to be a part of that. If I am not traveling myself then I want to surround myself with people who are.

Originally from Michigan, I grew up camping and adventuring along the shores of the Great Lakes from a young age. My love affair with South America started in 2006 when I took my first international trip to Peru. Since, I have been back and forth between my home in Michigan and South America, having spent considerable time both working and traveling across the continent. I am currently based in Puerto Natales, Chile where I am lucky enough to have Torres del Paine National Park as my backyard.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"We specialize in trips in and around Torres del Paine National Park as well as Los Glaciares National park in Argentina.

I can help you organize anything from the standard ´W´ Hike to more exclusive and off-trail hikes in some of the parks hidden valleys. Would you fancy a 3-day camping and kayaking expedition? I can do that too!

Adventure, adventure, adventure! "

How did you get involved in travel?

"Around 2008 I began traveling to Peru each summer, organizing trips for a University of Michigan based sustainable development project. This initiative brought me back each summer and from there I discovered the world of backpacking. After numerous trips and years spent in South America it became clear that I wanted to root myself here, and what better place than Patagonia. With over 10 years experience in the hospitality industry and a grand passion for travel and the outdoors I decided that a career in the adventure travel industry was the way to go, and here I am!"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I spent 4 days in a hammock on a boat floating (very slowly...) down the Amazon River."

Perfect if you want to feel pampered without feeling sterile or luxury devoid of character. And like you're joining a warm community that still gives you privacy. The cost is well worth it, especially given the cost of the other all-inclusive stays in Patagonia.

LOVED our guide Eddie! He was incredibly knowledgeable about history, culture, food, and everything in between. The neighborhoods we walked through were great. The food stops along the way were solid, some better than others and we only tried 3 things.

Quality of Experience
I would make a suggestion - add more variety of food items so that we can try more things especially since this is billed as a food tour and due to the high price point. Split the portion sizes among couples, etc. do help people not be full.

I first came across Erin’s name while researching for our Patagonia trip December of 2025. While reading a ton of travel blogs and ideas, there was an article written by her with various itineraries laid out and it gave me the most succinct summary of what the highlights are and helped me with a more concrete idea of what I want for our itinerary. I proceeded to contact a few companies including kimkim to help make it into reality. Imagine my excitement when I heard from Erin. Of the responses I received from many companies, hers unsurprisingly were the most informative and constructive. Over the next few weeks we went back and forth with my many questions, and Erin’s always helpful advice and suggestions. By the time the itinerary was drafted, I was beyond impressed by how well put together it was. Every detail, no matter how small, was included, such as every leg of transfer, lunch packs for hiking or traveling days, and how to incorporate another traveler into a part of the itinerary. I am a detail oriented person and I had very little to nitpick on.

Throughout the planning phase, Erin not only provided great recommendations, she was also always responsive, cheerful, professional while personable. She was also realistic in her advice which is truly appreciated. Once our trip commenced, she and her colleague Jessica were always there for us. Everything went smoothly. We never had a late pick up or missed lunch. The arranged drivers and the boat transfers worked like clockwork. The hotels recommended were comfortable and exactly what we needed after long windy hiking days of Patagonia. The company provided an emergency contact which Jessica monitored. While we had no issues, I had random thoughts or questions throughout the trip due to weather, and Jessica would always answer within 15 minutes and we loved having the lifeline to reach back to.

Overall, it has been a fantastic experience working with Erin and Jessica. They helped making our dream of Patagonia a reality and made it into an unforgettable experience.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much. The location of the hotel was really nice...close to the water and lots of restaurants. The staff, Vanessa and Dani, were so incredibly helpful! We shared a list of local dishes and drinks that we were keen on trying out and they went out of their way to help us find restaurants that would serve these. They also gave us great tips during our stay and helped arrange taxis when we needed them. One of the best stay experiences for sure!

This was a nice activity, and we enjoyed seeing the national park from different viewpoints. However, the tour felt less focused on wildlife and more on covering a wide expanse of the national park. So, you could get lucky with regard to the wildlife while driving around the park, but you won't necessarily go searching for wildlife.

Kimkim in general (Erin in particular) were extremely helpful in developing our Argentina Patagonia itinerary. They were very responsive, friendly, and professional. We made LOTS of changes along the way and they were always accommodating.
El Calafate was a good starting point for some glacier excursions. Estancia Cristina was a nice combo including a boat trip across Lake Argentina (some ice bergs along the way), a nice easy hike to view Upsala Glacier, and an unexpectedly good lunch for such a seemingly remote place.
Perito Moreno glacier is almost indescribable, a must see as photos don’t do it justice. Private guide there really is not necessary as the boardwalks are well marked. If I had it to do over, I’d add an excursion ONTO the glacier as we could see people doing.
Laguna de Los tres was our one long hike. This hike requires you to be in decent shape (13-15 miles, steep at end, 9 hr day). You don’t really NEED a guide as the trails are well marked, but I really enjoyed the day with Nicolas from Walk Patagonia. The info he provided on the geology, fauna and flora enriched the experience.
Ushuaia was very interesting to see. Because of arrival times and excursions, we had to squeeze in and rush through the Prison Museum - I would budget more time for that if I could. The trip down the Beagle Channel is a must-do. Piratour is the one company that allows you to land and walk on Martillo Island with the penguins. That was pretty incredible to see.
While Tierra del Fuego national Park was pretty, I must say it paled in comparison to what we had already seen to this point farther north and I’m not sure I would book that again. The “train at the end of the world“ I most definitely would not recommend unless you have small children. It was a slow moving “choo-choo“ that really did not provide much in the way of views, just a very touristy experience with high-pressure sales of photos of yourself. If I did it over, I would’ve used that time to perhaps get farther up into the national park on a hike, get something other than a drive up viewpoint type of experience.
Overall, I was very happy with this itinerary and my experience with KimKim and I plan to use them again with an upcoming anniversary trip with my wife.

Patagonia: Where the Wild Whispers and the Sky Roars

"Muy fuerte" doesn't even begin to describe the raw, untamed power of Patagonia. This land of colossal skies and jagged peaks seared itself into my soul, a visceral experience that transcended any travel brochure. Our journey was a symphony of contrasts: cozy refugios echoing with trekkers' tales, luxurious hotels offering respite from the elements, and glamping under a star-drenched canvas.

We traversed this breathtaking landscape by every means imaginable – soaring above it by plane, bumping along rugged roads in private transfers, skimming turquoise waters in zodiacs, swaying atop sure-footed horses, and, most intimately, conquering its trails on foot. Each mode of transport unveiled a new facet of Patagonia's grandeur.

The iconic "W" trek tested our limits, rewarding us with panoramas that defied description. We shared laughter and stories with fellow adventurers, forging bonds strengthened by shared awe. The culinary delights, paired with robust Chilean wines, fueled our bodies and spirits.

Walking on ancient glaciers felt like stepping into a frozen time capsule. We witnessed the "Patagonian Ice Dragon" – a aquatic insect that completes its entire life cycle within glaciers – and held our breath as an avalanche, a distant white thunder, reshaped the mountainside.

Yet, beyond the grand spectacles, it was the subtle, profound moments that truly captivated me. The vast, untainted skies stretching to infinity, the Milky Way ablaze with celestial fire, the quiet satisfaction of conquering challenging trails, and the sheer, sculptural magnificence of Torres del Paine’s granite towers – these were the memories etched deepest.

We didn't encounter a Mylodon, that elusive prehistoric giant, but the pull of Patagonia is undeniable. We'll surely be back!

A word of advice: Don't wait. Experience this wonder while your legs are strong and your spirit is ready to embrace the wild.

A heartfelt thank you to Erin and Dittmar Travel for their impeccable logistics, seamlessly orchestrating a journey that allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in Patagonia's magic. They transformed a dream into an unforgettable reality.
