5 Days in Thailand - 4 Unique Itinerary Ideas

With five days in Thailand, it's best to tour the highlights of one region. See the highlights of the capital, Bangkok, or discover the temples of northern Thailand and the best of Chiang Mai. You may choose to get off the beaten path in the southern part of the country in Phang Nga Bay or even opt for a more culturally-focused trip by trekking between villages and homestays in the north.

With one week in Thailand, it's best to explore just one of its regions or opt for a tour of the country's many attractive islands. Travelers can discover the highlights of Bangkok and Phuket, island hop near Krabi, have a nature and culture-focused experience, or go trekking in Northern Thailand.

With 10 days in Thailand, you can discover the highlights of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Ko Samui on a well-rounded tour. Or, swap in Phuket and sample the country's flavor-packed cuisine on a culinary adventure. Travelers looking to spend time in both the jungle and on the beach will find a trip featuring elephant encounters and excursions to Erawan National Park and Phi Phi Island hits the mark, while those seeking a serene getaway can island hop between Ko Samui, Ko Tao, and Ko Phangan.

Two weeks allows for plenty of ways to experience the best of Thailand, whether you opt for a classic tour of Bangkok and Chiang Mai, hop around tropical islands like Ko Samui, Krabi, and Phuket, or opt for a foodie tour. You can also get off the tourist trail with time in hill-tribe villages and visits to remote national parks. Or embark on an active adventure featuring treks to waterfalls, snorkeling excursions, and a countryside bike ride.

How Many Days to Spend in Thailand

In as few as five days, you can experience authentic Thai culture on a trip to the southern bays or trekking around the villages in the country's north. With a week, there's enough time to go on an immersive tour of Chiang Mai or hit the trails on a multi-day hike of the northern mountains and rice paddies. And with 10 or 12 days, you can embark on a grand tour that includes Bangkok, the northern temples, and the sun-kissed southern beaches.

Best Time of Year to Visit Thailand

Thailand is a long country, with mountains in the north and beautiful beaches in the south. It's almost uniformly hot, but some times of year are much hotter (and wetter) than others. Thailand is busiest (unsurprisingly) when the weather is at its best, from November to March. During low season, you should expect heavy rain, but that doesn't mean you can't have a good time—you just need to know where to go. Here are some tips to know about the best time of year to visit Thailand.

Hoa was an amazing trip coordinator and specialist. Her attention to detail was superb and we appreciated her handling all the details quickly and efficiently. She checked with us each step of the way while on our trip to ensure all was well and when we had an issue in Borneo she managed it efficiently as well! We spent a month touring SE Asia and during that time, we were very satisfied with the itinerary, the activities and the included meals. Thank you, Hoa for a job well done ! Read more

We loved this hotel and were shocked that it was only rated as a 3 star. The setting was amazing - we felt like we were in the Alps! The room was well appointed and appeared to have been recently renovated- food was good as well!

Authentic Mekong Delta by Joining Speedboat
Authentic Mekong Delta by Joining Speedboat
Ho Chi Minh City

Seeing how people live along the River was wonderful. But the condition of the river was very sad. Water hyacinths clog the entire river suffocating fish life and making it nearly impossible for boat engines to, get through. Ho Chi Minh City is a beautiful city with nice restaurants and we enjoyed the hotel we stayed at. The value was good, but it was sad to see how people are forced to live along the River.

Our driver was great and the boat captain got through the delta…the long boat captains were also good. The river was so dilthy the further you went up river. Human waste, garbage, smells (ugh).

Phi Phi islands was also impressive, beautiful beaches and tasy lunch, guides were great.

Kimkim and especially our travel agent Kien, made our trip to Thailand absolutely unforgettable. From start to finish, everything was flawlessly planned—our excursions, transfers, resorts, and especially our wedding were beyond anything we could have imagined.

What truly stood out was how closely he listened to every detail of what we wanted. We shared that we were looking for adventure and not a typical tourist experience—we wanted to truly experience the beauty and culture of Thailand—and he absolutely nailed it. Every part of our itinerary felt authentic and intentional, and we loved being able to explore so many different areas, each with its own unique charm.

Every detail was handled with care, which allowed us to completely relax and enjoy every moment. Our wedding was simply magical, and we are so grateful for the thought and effort that went into making it so special. Thank you so much for truly making our wedding and honeymoon perfect.

Nis, our fishing guide, went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing day on the water and we absolutely did. Overall, the resort was the perfect way to end our vacation. Very relaxing, quiet and pretty much perfect.

Hi Kristin,

Thank you so much for your beautiful review, and for sharing all those photos, they are absolutely gorgeous 😊 It was so special to see those moments come to life.

I’m truly happy to hear that the trip and your wedding turned out just as you had hoped. From the very beginning, I could feel how important it was for you both to have something meaningful and not just a typical experience, so it means a lot to know it all came together that way.

Your wedding at Paradise Koh Yao Noi looked incredible, and I’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to Bee and Nis. They’ll be so happy to hear this.

Thank you again for trusting me with such an important journey. It was really a pleasure to plan this with you.

Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness together, and hopefully another adventure in the future!

Warmly,
Kien
