The helpful suggestions in the original trip planning stage were much appreciated, and the on the ground support, the drivers who met us at transition points and the helpful and well informed guides, were all terrific.

The trip was tailored to our needs and preferences, and the support made the entire trip relatively stress free. Peru is an amazing travel destination. The history, the natural beauty and the varied terrain were all incredible. However, it is a large and complex country, and I am glad that we didn't try to navigate our trip without the substantial help and assistance from our local guides and drivers.

This lodge is quite a remarkable experience. The rooms and walkways are open to the air, and this gives it an unusual connection to the surrounding jungle. A variety of birds are close, and I saw monkeys one morning from the living room. A slight downside of this arrangement: you can hear people in the adjacent room if they are not quiet. The beds were comfortable, and the bathrooms were memorable in a good way. Great showers. The hardworking staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good, and the overall experience was certainly a highlight of our trip.

Kitchen staff, particularly Luis, went out of their way to cater to our vegan needs both at breakfast and dinner with special preparations. Charming rooftop dining with ocean view and open as well as covered seating with a wide breakfast buffet spread with a lot of choices.

Quad setting with pool in the middle and buildings secluded from the road. Charming rooftop dining with ocean view and open as well as covered seating with a wide breakfast buffet spread with a lot of choices.
Location
On the western end of town away from many restaurants but near a supermarket, the Galapagos Deli that had a vegan sandwich, the jetty and promenade with a fresh coconut stall and multiple souvenir vendors. Great for all we needed.
Staff
Great kitchen staff who went out of their way. Office staff did their job but nothing noteworthy
Cleanliness & Comfort
3 separate beds and a sofa set made a comfortable setting. Bathroom was big enough for all the needs; sink separate from the toilet/shower area allowed multiple people to get ready. The sockets were behind the beds and not on the side making it difficult to charge electronics.

Kristy was very supportive on this last day where we traveled from Galapagos to Quito AND took a midnight flight back to the US - a very long day! The taxi stand at the Quito airport was very supportive to help us with a quick visit back to the city for our dinner. There are no places at or near the airport with vegan options for food. The driver of the taxi that the airport staff arranged spoke no English so it made for an interesting 1hour each way to the city with our broken spanish and google translate. Luckily the driver's ecletic liking in music helped as we listened to the variety.

Lilian was an awesome guide. She arrived on time, stayed long enough to cover everything we wanted to do and did not rush us. She walked with us to all the places on our list and had the cards for the Aerovia cable car to make it easy to purchase the tickets. She told us about which places were safe and kept us away from places that were not safe. She even took us to a great souvenir shop and helped us with the shopping. She went out of the way to recommend vegan restaurants we should try! She also told us of a safe walking route to go see the giant monkey statue (Estatua Del Mono Machín) within walking distance of the hotel but in the median of the Juan Javier Marcos y Aguirre road on the way to the airport.

I appreciated that this tour was a combination, walking tour and driving tour. There’s a lot to see that can’t be covered by just foot. But there are several locations within the town that are more easily accessible by walking. I would have liked to include walking into the town Square and seeing the main cathedral as part of the tour. I think that could’ve been a quick add on before getting into the car. We didn’t really have that as part of the tour though. Once we were in the car and driving around, I liked the first stop at Saqsaywaman. However, there were two other ruins that seemed redundant and less important. I don’t feel like those were added value. Instead, we asked our tour guide if there were other things we could see, and he was able to pivot and take us to a llama farm. That was a highlight! We saw a llamas, alpacas, vicunas, guinea pigs and condors. We happen to get there around feeding time so we were able to feed them and interact. We thoroughly enjoyed that part of the tour.

They have us a ride in one of their boats which was fun. We also went to their little main island with a few restaurants. It’s a very different way of life and neat to see. Taquile island wasn’t very interesting. It took 1.5 hours to get there from Uros and there wasn’t really anything special except to see the native people and eat lunch. We had three different guides respectively for the three trips, Reynaldo, Simon and Jamie. We had some problems with the first trip due to some miscommunication at the beginning: for some reason Reynaldo sent Whatsapp messages to one of us who did not read her messages instead of contacting me, the main person to communicate with Kimkim. As a result, we were briefed by someone else sent by the tour operator Alpaca Expeditions and there was confusion as to how to deliver our luggage to a new hotel before our return from the trip to Machu Picchu. Reynaldo turned out to be an acceptable guide especially for his knowledge about nature, plants and animals, but I feel he can improve by being more dedicated. We were put off at the end of the trip because we felt pressured to write reviews in front of him. Simon is amiable who put us at ease right away. We did not reach the peak to see the rainbow mountain because we were very slow paced and also because of the bad weather condition. Jamie was very patient with our slow pace which we appreciated. We were able to complete our hike to enjoy the fantastic view of the lake.

The mix-up was with our local partner, Alpaca Expeditions, and unfortunately we weren’t aware of the situation until you reached out to us the night before your trek. Once we were notified, we stepped in right away to help clarify the logistics with their team so your trek could proceed smoothly. We’ll be following up with them in more detail to understand exactly what happened and ensure we can avoid this type of confusion for future travelers.

We truly appreciate your feedback, it helps us continue improving the experience for our travelers. Look forward to staying in touch!

Warm regards,
Kristy

The trip was well planned and executed by the kimkim staff.
the information was given up front, and there was a direct communication line while on the ground in Peru.
we greatly enjoyed the amazing guides we met in the different locations. They are part of local tour offices who work with kimkim.

Kristy was extremely helpful in a number of ways. She did a great job setting up the trip and was kind enough to help one of our travelers that had issues with departing flight. She also helped to retrieve something we left in a hotel room. Excellent job!

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for your review! I’m really glad to hear everything went smoothly and that we could help with both the flight issue and the hotel pickup. It was such a pleasure working with your group, I hope you all had an amazing time in Peru!
