Best of Tralee

Top itineraries and travel advice in and around Tralee
The mid-sized town of Tralee is the capital of County Kerry and a great place to discover the wonders of this western region. You can learn about Irish history, customs and traditions at the excellent County Kerry Museum and explore the area’s rare ecosystems at the Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre. Most visitors stop in just for the day on their way up the west coast, but you can also stay overnight in one of Tralee’s good-value hotels - or just out of town in Ballyseede Castle. Staying for the night also gives you the chance to mingle with locals over pints and traditional music at one of the town’s lively pubs.

The center of civic pride is Tralee Town Park, one of Ireland’s largest urban green spaces and home to rose gardens, a garden of the senses and various sculptures and monuments. Ballyseedy Woods is a favorite spot for woodland strolls amid centuries-old oak, ash and beech trees as well as the ruins of old estates, some of which date back to the 17th century. West of town, the 19th-century Blennerville Windmill stands as the dominant landmark in Tralee Bay, and is the only windmill along Ireland’s Atlantic Way - and the largest working windmill in both Ireland and England.
