All of the guides were excellent. We especially liked the Sloth tour in La Fortuna because it turned out to be a private tour and the tour guide (I can’t remember her name) was able to take pictures with my phone through her telescope.

In Puerto Viejo, we enjoyed meeting Andres for the BriBri tour, which was the best of the trip hands down. Amazing family and culture. Shout out to Nelson, our friendly driver!

Hotel Reviews
Montaña de Fuego Mountain Resort & Spa
La Fortuna

Wonderful, clean rooms and nicely spaced out bungalows. The breakfast was excellent. The all inclusive dinners were good but not great.

Authenticity & Character
The hotel is comprised of bungalows so it felt very private. I heard from other travelers in different hotels that they had noisy upstairs neighbors. Our room also had a roofed outdoor area with chairs and a coffee machine!
Location
We had an impressive view of the Arenal Volcano.
Staff
Everyone was friendly
Cleanliness & Comfort
Rooms were spacious and the linens were nice. Very clean.
Cariblue Beach & Jungle Resort
South Puerto Viejo

Our room was great, a bit removed from the lobby, but there were some less desirable rooms, two stories and near the street, which would be noisy. Our room was like a thatched roof hut, very private and quiet. It would’ve been nice to have a coffee machine, but there was a small refrigerator in the room.

Authenticity & Character
Total rainforest vibe. There were monkeys, birds, lots of agoutis and spiders too. Beautiful setting.
Location
I enjoyed being near the beach about a mile from town yet still having a few restaurants nearby.
Staff
Cleanliness & Comfort
Clean and comfortable. Towels were clean but sort of threadbare.
