As a Colombian adoptee meeting her biological mother for the first time, my trip to Colombia was expected to be memorable and extremely special. When beginning to plan the trip, I knew I needed a team who had great knowledge and big hearts as I needed a tour guide who could help translate during my conversation with my biological mother. I came across Kimkim in a google search and read nothing but great reviews so I decided to take a chance on them and I am so glad I did!
Right away Margartia made me feel welcomed to my home country, which meant so much for me. It was very clear that she had passion for what she does and she showed genuine happiness and excitement in my story and purpose of my trip.
The day my husband I were supposed to leave, there was a hiccup at the airport and we ended up having to leave later, which was about to result in the cancelation of our very anticipated tour of the coffee farm and our stay at La Palma y El Tucan. However, our tour guide Filipe was willing to take us to the coffee farm even though we would arrive around 2am! Without his extremely generous accommodation, we would have missed one of my favorite parts of our trip.
Filipe stayed with my husband and I the remainder of our trip in Bogotá and I’m so thankful he did. Filipe was well versed in all things Bogotá and its beautiful culture. From the 2am arrival on the coffee farm to being a part of one of a life altering moment (meeting my biological mother) Filipe was hands down the best tour guide I could’ve hoped for.
From Bogotá we made our way up the coast to the warm and colorful city of Cartagena. Upon our arrival we were accompanied by Lee who taught us the fascinating history of these beautiful streets. Lee was knowledgeable and made my husband and I laugh plenty.
A few days later we fid a street art tour led by Jorge. His knowledge of the culture and art of the city was incredible. Cartagena’s story is strong and I’m grateful to have heard it.

Margartia and her team at Kimkim were simply the best. Our trip was full of fun activities and we created memories that will last us a life time. We will be next in a Colombia again and will absolutely be in touch with Margartia when that time comes!

The location of this hotel was great and is aesthetically pleasing- it’s absolutely beautiful. The bar is fun and I loved the breakfast. There is a beautiful lounge area on the roof where we also got incredibly relaxing massages! Only personal issue I had was the lunch/dinner menu had very little selections for anyone who doesn’t eat sea food which unfortunately is me, so we had no choice than to find food somewhere else every night. One night during our stay, there was someone spackling a wall around 1:00 in the morning which led to my husband and I being woken up to noise outside our door. At some point another hotel guest (who sounded intoxicated) was talking loudly with whoever was working in the hall way, but she moved on after a few minutes. Another night someone was on their phone from 3-4 in the morning outside her door. I was surprised none of the staff asked the person to take their call inside their room or to step outside the hotel to not disturb the other hotel guests, but no one did. I had no choice than to ask the woman myself to please be quiet. Also, the room for some reason got VERY hot in the middle of the night, but was freezing during the day (which wasn’t bad because it was so hot outside). You do not have control over the temperature in your own room, which was not preferable. Lastly, my husband had a very slight altercation with one of the bartenders whom refused to give my husband the correct amount of change and said “tip” when my husband asked for the change back. My husband explained and showed the bartender that he had already placed a tip in the tip jar, but the bartender shrugged and still didn’t not give my husband his change. It was just a rude interaction especially being that they have signs on the bar stating you can tip as little or as much as you please, or not tip at all. It was distasteful. Overall our stay here was pleasant, but I’m not sure it would be #1 choice if we came back to Cartagena.

It would be great if we would control the temperature in the room ourselves. Also, hot water runs out very quickly in the shower.
La Palma y el Tucán

I LOVED our stay here! The villas offer stunning views of the mountains and the food was phenomenal and fresh. I just want to highlight Nico for a moment here… Nico (and some fun furry friends!) gave us a tour of the coffee farm and we learned SO much about what goes into the delicious I consume daily.. Nico was just a kind soul and his energy was calming and he genuinely wanted to teach us about the farm and their goal for delivering the most delicious organic coffee to Colombia; he was simply amazing. I will never forget my time spent here. 100% would come back for another stay.

Erin, I am so pleased to see that this trip filled your heart.

Thank you for trusting the team and me.
We were all excited about your visit!
The team in both cities put all their heart and effort into making your return to Colombia special.

As I told you once we are those friends that will take care of you always.

We are waiting for you again and this time with your son, so he can get to know the beautiful country where his mother was born.

A big hug from your second home.
Margarita
