Oudtshoorn is 181 miles (292 km) from Jeffreys Bay. The best way to get between these two towns is by car, a 3-4 hour journey that allows travelers to explore the Garden Route along the way. Be aware of pay tolls on this route (there is another, slightly shorter route without pay tolls, although it is considerably less scenic). Bus travel is also available, but not recommended—the journey takes twice as long . and doesn’t offer the opportunity to explore en route.

Those traveling by car might consider this 6-day itinerary that covers Cape Town, Oudtshoorn, the Garden Route, and more.

By Private Transfer or Rental Car

Duration: 3 - 4 hours

Traveling by car offers the opportunity for multiple stopovers along the way to explore some of the Garden Route’s best spots. We recommend traveling on the N2 and N12 highways. This route takes slightly longer and includes tolls—but takes you along the coast with scenic views and great places to stop. Some recommended places to visit include Storm’s River, Nature’s Valley, Knysna, Sedgefield, and Wilderness. See this itinerary for more information about the Garden Route. Those who opt for this route will travel on the N2 highway for most of the route and then turn onto the N12 near the town George for the remainder of the trip.

Alternatively, you can leave via the N2 and then turn onto the R62 which covers most of the route before turning onto the N12 highway. This option is 30 minutes shorter and doesn’t include tolls. However, it means traveling inland without the opportunity to explore the Garden Route in all of its coastal glory. Joubertina is a good place to stop over at for lunch.

After arriving in Oudtshoorn, travelers can get around by rental car, private transfer, or foot.

By Bus

Duration: 6 hours

This method is more time-consuming than traveling by car and may make it harder for travelers to explore locations along the way. Those who do opt for the bus should use Baz Bus, a "hop-on, hop-off" bus popular with tourists, instead of regular bus lines. The Baz Bus travels this route once a day.
