Discover Art in Honfleur & Giverny, Giverny

Overview

Discover a bit of French art history by traveling to the two charming cities of Honfleur and Giverny, both center of the Impressionists movement and home to the one-and-only Claude Monet.

You'll start in Honfleur, with its narrow cobblestone streets surrounded by half-timbered houses. Walk through the old city and listen to details of the town's history, including the stories of Quai Sainte Catherine, which inspired great artists like Courbet, Eugène Boudin, and Claude Monet, all representatives of the Impressionist movement. Even today, Honfleur is a city of artists, and there are many galleries to enjoy. In addition, you'll visit the Porte de Caen, the Lieutenancy, the Saint Catherine Church, and the Côte de Grâce, the latter offering a superb view of the city. You'll also visit the St Siméon Farm, where painters stayed in the 19th century.

In 1883, Monet moved from Honfleur to Giverny with his family, which is your next stop. In this quiet village where the landscape offers many patterns and colors, he was inspired and lived here until his death. You can visit Monet's house and gardens, and if you'd like, the Impressionism Museum in Giverny.
