Treasures of Provence: Arles, Les Baux, Saint Rémy, & Alpilles, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence

Overview

Enjoy a full tour of Provence, discovering its treasures, culture, and heritage. Start with a walking tour in Arles, a city known for its Roman heritage and art. You'll visit its famous Roman amphitheater and other preserved ancient sites. You'll also see the places depicted by Van Gogh in his masterpieces La Maison Jaune (The Yellow House), Le Café la Nuit (The Night Cafe), and Le Jardin de l'hôtel Dieu (The Hospital Garden), all scenes from beautiful Arles.

Next, head to Les Baux de Provence, a village set upon a rock standing over 800 feet (245 m) high. The town has a famed historical pedestrian center that you can freely enjoy. One of the area's highlights is a visit to the Carrières de Lumières sound and light show. Each year, the show features particular artists. For example, in 2019, it was dedicated to Kandinsky and Paul Cézanne.

Continue on your Provence treasure hunt and make your way to Saint Paul de Mausole in Saint Rémy de Provence, a hospital where the painter Vincent Van Gogh stayed for one year.

In the afternoon, discover the estates and vineyards of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and its wine region, the Alpilles. Wines produced at these estates come from a unique soil complex, creating red, rosé, white, and organic wines, plus IGP Alpilles or AOP Vallée des Baux de Provence varietals. Winegrowers will share their know-how with you during a special oenological journey.

At the end of the tour, enjoy a tasting combining wines and olive oil from the Vallée des Baux PDO. Started in 1997, these olive-based products and olive oil have been recognized around the world.
