The Wine House Hotel - Quinta da Pacheca, Douro Valley

4.8 (5 reviews) · Comfort
Historic estate with traditional rooms, wine barrel bungalows, a pool, and a restaurant

Overview

Situated in the village of Cambes, The Wine House Hotel - Quinta da Pacheca is one of the most recognizable estates in the Douro Valley. The winery's origins date back to the 16th century, and part of the hotel is housed in an 18th-century stone manor that has retained historical artifacts and touches. The region's de facto capital, Peso da Régua, is under 10 minutes away by car, where you'll find a wine museum and an array of restaurants and shops. Porto and its airport are just a 1.5-hour drive.

The hotel's rooms are divided between the historic building and large barrels, which are exactly what they sound like. Barrel rooms face the vineyards and contain a bed, shower, and deck, offering wine lovers a one-of-a-kind experience. Rooms in the original manor are more traditional, with floral bedspreads and vintage furniture, and there are more modernly decorated room options as well. While children are welcome, the hotel's focus on wine and historic and romantic atmosphere makes it more suitable for couples or friends.

After taking a dip in the outdoor pool or indulging in a spa treatment, discover the history of the estate with a wine tour, where the knowledgable staff will take you around the vineyards and show you the production of wine and port. The elegant restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Douro River and is a cozy place to sample regional dishes and, of course, wine.

We only stayed here one night; sorry it wasn't more. Absolutely stunning hotel in the heart of the Douro Valley. The views, unbelievable. Unbelievably, wonderfully decadent. The staff was all friendly and very helpful. Very romantic spot (I was with my sisters but would love to come back under different circumstances)! Read more

Oh my gosh, where do I start..the location & grounds are stunning. We arrived & were informed that there was an optional wine tasting that we could attend if we wanted. We went to the meeting area for it, where we were then separated into two groups: those that spoke Portuguese & those who spoke English. They then took us to rough the winery, into their caves & did a very fun, entertaining , informative, wonderful wine tasting. Afterwards we were invited to their tasting room if we wanted to... We went to the meeting area for it, where we were then separated into two groups: those that spoke Portuguese & those who spoke English. They then took us to rough the winery, into their caves & did a very fun, entertaining , informative, wonderful wine tasting. Afterwards we were invited to their tasting room if we wanted to sample other wines, which we did. They were happy to have us taste many wines, liberal pours. We couldn’t help ourselves, we ordered serval bottles of various wines & had them shipped home. Lovely staff. Food in the restaurant was very good & service was perfect.
