Giulia Carucci

My name is Giulia, I was born in Milan in 1983 and raised in Milan's nearbies.
When I was 26, I decided to move to Bologna to complete my University studies...but then I fell in love with this incredibly beautiful city, so I decided to remain there!
My passion for travelling started when I was only 15... and never stopped! I have been travelling around the world and up and down throughout Italy ever since! When I got 30, I also decided to spend some time living abroad, so I spent 6 months living, working...and travelling in Canada. My love for Italy was too strong though, so I finally decided to come back and set roots in my beloved Bologna.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"I am a food and wine lover, and I think that knowing a place also passes though its food and wine specialties. So I like to combine a visit to historical sites with activities that also allow to appreciate the food and wine specialties of the area.
I also like to travel "off-the-beaten-path", so in the trips I organize, I like to match visits to the main Italian attractions with visits to hidden gems and corners, that otherwise you would hardly manage to know. I am in love with sailing: there is nothing like the peace and views you can enjoy on a sailing boat, and the sense of freedom it provides!
I am finally an Alfa Romeo lover, so I will be more than happy to share this passion with other Alfa Romeo lovers!"

How did you get involved in travel?

"Travelling has always been my passion: there is nothing that can enrich your soul and life like visiting other countries and discovering new places and cultures. While I was living in Canada, I had the chance to speak to many people and to appreciate the reachness and beauty that my own country of origin offered from a new perspective. Not only: I felt so happy in helping foreign and Italian friends visit Italy and discover its hidden corners...that I decided that would become my job. So after many years travelling around Italy to find unique places to visit and wonderful experiences, I am now very happy to assist you designing you a wonderful travel experience to my own country!"

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Two of the best trips I enjoyed in Italy were in Sicily and Umbria. Sicily has conquered my heart for the combination of beauties it offers (wonderful seaside places and historical gems) and for the kindness of people you find. Umbria has conquered my soul for the natural beauties it offers, for it spiritual places...and for its friendly inhabitants!
Since I am a free spirit, another unforgettable trip was a boat tour I enjoyed in Greece on sailing boat: I will never forget the incredible connection I felt with the surrounding nature and with the sea, and the incredible dawns and sunsets I was able to see on board."

Our tour of Italy was spectacular, expertly managed by our local specialist Giulia. We travelled across the northern half of the country seamlessly, with easy-to-follow instructions for trains, transfers and car hire.

Our hotel in Venice was quiet, despite being just off the main thoroughfare. The hidden Venice private tour was great, with good food and wine. We returned to one of the osterias for a meal another day, our guide Marta giving us some great tips for local eateries.
Bologna was fun, more great food and wine, and the timely chance to participate in some local sporting events.
Late May was an ideal time to drive around Tuscany, some tourist crowds but not yet peak season. We loved our pasta cooking class at a cheese farm, followed by ... more great food and wine. Found several hidden gems of food shops, restaurants, and handmade goods away from the main tourist trodden streets in several of the towns.
Finished in Rome, managed to see the end of the Giro d'Italia, enjoyed many of the busy tourist sites, many of which were free on the first Sunday of the month. Our small group tours of the Vatican and Catacombs ended up being private tours which allowed our guides to customise the itineraries for our interests.

Secure courtyard accessed through a covered alleyway (sotoportego).

Hidden Venice and cicchetti experience
Hidden Venice and cicchetti experience
Italy

Our guide Marta took us through several streets off the main tourist path and we saw several of the quirkier sites of Venice. Food and wine were sampled at several great osterias. We got some great tips on eateries where the food was delicious and the prices reasonable.
