My favorite definition is-
Travel (travel-ǝl)-noun- The only thing you buy that makes you richer.

I have had the privilege of traveling to numerous countries. Traveling close to the earth has provided me a window into different walks of life. I crave interacting with locals and experiencing all a region offers. I always take the time to stroll through remote villages or big cities to get a feel for what the environment offers. I love to explore historical castles, reach the peak of the tallest mountains, and let the ocean lap against my feet.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"France offers a diverse topography and rich history; it's full of culture, culinary delights, and adventure. France is all things to all people. I can help you create an itinerary so you, your family, or your group can see the beautiful scenery everywhere, from amazing cityscapes to wineries, coastlines, and mountain ranges. You will also have the opportunity to visit all the top destinations in Paris that travelers come back to see time and time again. "

How did you get involved in travel?

"I became hooked on travel at a very young age. Road trips around the USA were my first taste of exploration, and that was the gateway to wanting to see more of the world. I moved to New Zealand and drove on every road on the South Island. From there, Europe's topography drew me in, and it's history, culture, and architecture provided ways to connect with the location and people. I didn't realize that feeling in my heart would become necessary and even addictive throughout my life. "

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I will never forget the first time I visited Paris. It was so important to me to see the city lights at night and the city's vast expanse during the day. The city kept pulling us in directions we couldn't resist going. By the end of the first day, we had walked 17 miles exploring all we could, and there was still so much more to see. It's the city that just keeps giving. Packing hint- bring 2 pairs of walking shoes so you can alternate them to give your feet a rest day after day. "

I travelled to France with my 23-yr-old daughter and we had a most memorable experience. I went to Italy & Greece last year with the amazing help of KimKim and have to credit that positive experience for my getting to return to Europe again so soon! Liz helped me curate an itinerary that was respectful of my budget, our time, and our interests. All excursions, from the tour guides involved to the locations and the experience, were top quality. Our budget allowed for the moderate hotel accommodations and all were great. They were centrally located and easily accessible to all we wanted to see. We were ESPECIALLY pleased with the location of our Nice hotel.
We enjoyed Paris, Aix En Provence, and Nice. We were somewhat pleasantly surprised to love Paris as much as we did. The only thing we wish were different was that we had more time to spend there. The Eiffel Tower did not disappoint! We enjoyed casual meals in the outdoor spaces of various cafes, we took an hour boat ride down the Seine, We enjoyed the gardens of Luxembourg Palace, shopped the Champs Elysses (where my daughter enjoyed a luxury purchase experience that she had looked forward to), experienced the Louvre, and went on 2 arranged excursions/tours: A chocolate and pastry making tour and a tour of the Champagne region. Both were excellent. The chocolate/pastry tour was a private walking tour that enabled us to see other neighorhoods in Paris. Led by Aude, a very pleasant, professional, and educated young woman, It lasted about 3 hrs and was perfect for us. The Champagne tour was a full (10 hr) day led by Enzo who taught us so much. We loved this small group experience.
In Aix, we stayed a bit "off the beaten path" in a hotel with a lovely pool. We went into town for some shopping and dining but, our "main event" was going on a day trip to a fisherman's village, Cassis. This is likely our favorite part of the trip. What a beautiful small village with incredible views of the bluest waters! Led by Camille, a TERRIFIC guide, we enjoyed a boat ride to the Calanques, free time to have a lovely lunch of fresh caught fish and shopping. We also took a short ride up the mountain to see the views from above. The day ended with a wine tasting at a quaint winery.
Our time in Nice was NICE! We really loved how centrally located we were. Our arranged excursions were: a private boat ride on a small, solar powered catamaran and a perfume making class. The boat ride was in the evening. It was serene and scenic on the waters between Nice & Monaco. The perfume making class was a bit quick but well done and in a lovely perfumery with a long history. Everything else we did was "self guided" but KimKim took the time to make suggestions, give directions, etc. even though this was the case. We spent a full day at a beach club, took a day trip to Monaco/Monte Carlo (where we had a very "hoity toity" cocktail and luncheon experience), shopped in an area called Old Town, and just enjoyed shopping and dining.
In addition to the excursions and accommodations arranged by KimKim, our train transfers to Aix and Nice were flawlessly prearranged my KimKim, as were our rides to and from the airports.
We couldn't have wished for a better time together. KimKim gets high praise!

Hôtel A la Villa des Artistes
Paris

Small/boutique style. Centrally located in the 6th "district." We did not have the breakfast as part of our arrangement but could see it was quite nice. They have a small outdoor courtyard that was lovely. Overall, a "no frills" hotel but was all we needed for the amount of time we were spending there (most of our time was spent "out & about). I had asked KimKim to keep me on a lower floor and the hotel accommodated that easily. The room was clean and quiet. The beds comfortable. There was construction on the street so there were times the street was closed to cars, making it a little tricky for uber, etc. I would recommend it!

This hotel did not feel as centrally located as we expected. A ride into the center of town was quick and not a problem, however. They have a nice pool area that we made use of any chance we could. They have a restaurant/bar that was open for dinner the night we arrived (Thursday) but, oddly, not on the second night we were there. We ordered food to be delivered from an outside source when the restaurant was closed and, even though they have indoor/outdoor dining seating, we were told we had to eat it in our room. They also have a nice breakfast buffet. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with good temp control. We had a nice window with a view overlooking the pool

Great location on a central corner of The Promenade. We had a spacious room on a lower floor (per request) that was quiet and comfortable. We had been told to expect a "Sea View" room but, unfortunately, did not receive. KimKim was accessible and responsive to us promptly. This hotel had an ice machine (something that I found to be GREAT and not common) and ready access to water coolers. They had a beautiful space for their expansive breakfast buffet that was open to outside. All we had to do was walk out the main entrance in any direction to start seeing the sites, shops, and restaurants/cafes.

IF I had to pick, this would be the favorite outing of the trip. What a beautiful day. Camille, our tour guide (we had a small group of 6), was wonderful. She was personable, informative, timely, etc. The village was perfection. Quaint, scenic, walkable, great (fresh) seafood, and so much more. We spent approx an hour on a small catamaran to see the Calanques. Gorgeous! It was a cloudy day so we couldn't see the full beauty of the blue water UNTIL we were driven to the mountain top and looked down. WOW! The views from up there! In between these two things, we enjoyed shopping/strolling to a perfumery and praline shop. We had time on our own for more shopping and to have lunch. Camille recommended several places and we were glad to have taken her up on her suggestion. We had a terrific lunch by the water. After done enjoying our time there (I'd love to return to stay overnight and take day trips from there), we went to a local, family owned winery (Bodin) for a wine tasting. LOVED this day trip!

This was a private boat tour that lasted an hour along the shoreline of the Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. Our guide (Wiliam, in English) was so kind. The catamaran was small and nice. It is solar powered and VERY quiet as a result. The whole area & experience was very peaceful and serene. The views were spectacular from the water. MANY ornate villas perched in the cliffsides and yachts in the water. It was just a very relaxing hour after a full day. We really enjoyed it.

This workshop was pretty quick for the amount of people involved (14). The staff member was quite capable and helpful but it felt like we could have benefited from a bit more time. This was relaxing and nice. 3 stars may be a bit "unfair" as we were SO tired from travel. It was convenient in that a boat leaves every hour. Although our ticket came with a time, we weren't pressured to be there at a specific time. There was plenty of room aboard for anyone/everyone to have a coveted outdoor seat. I think, because of something we misunderstood (?), we did not have access to the audio portion. However, we were able to hear some of the highlights and, just seeing the beautiful landmarks all around was great. We were able to walk over to the Eiffel Tower from the dock once finished, which was an added bonus.

We were not interested in spending our limited time inside museums all day but definitely wanted to experience the Louvre and some of its highlights. This tour was just right for us. We started spending some time on the exterior grounds, which were very impressive! A group of approx 15 of us were then led through the VERY busy and hectic entrance (and we went through a "secret" entrance that wasn't even as crowded) to an area where the guide explained what we would be seeing on our way to the Mona Lisa. We had been prepared by many a person to have low expectations re seeing the Mona Lisa. I am glad we had fair warning because it was exactly what we were prepped for: CROWDED, small, and no time to stay and admire. Having said that, we wouldn't have missed the chance to see her. After, we were given the opportunity to spend time on our own vs reconvene for a tour through a few more areas. We chose to wander on our own. We saw an exhibit of Haute Couture which was new and fabulous.

This was (unexpectedly & pleasantly) a private tour. We met our tour guide (Aude) for a walking tour of the 4th Arrondissement, which is a nice neighborhood that has a Jewish history and is LGBTQ friendly/dominant today. We learned alot about the history of the neighborhood and visited a Jewish memorial in addition to learning interesting facts and history about chocolate and pastry! The locations for chocolate and pastry tasting each had a story and their samplings were delicious. Aude was a great tour guide!

We loved this day! We learned so much about how Champagne is made and saw examples of a small winery and a large/industrial one. Our tour guide, Enzo, was very engaging and informative. We loved the small group (6) aspect. There was time to walk around the small town of Epernay to shop and have lunch. We also had the opportunity to tour a beautiful cathedral. We have been to Europe several times and normally book most of it ourselves, but this time, we wanted to take a bit of the stress out of the planning and reached out to Kimkim. What a great decision that was! Our trip started in Paris where we took in the Eiffel Tower, a wine and cheese tasting, a dinner cruise along the Seine River and a Louvre Tour (our guide was fantastic!!). We stayed at a cute boutique hotel near a metro stop which was perfect for us to get around without relying on taxis for the most part. From there we took the train to Leon where we took in an amazing culinary tour with another fantastic guide. We moved on to Avignon from there and had an amazing experience of a tour of the vinyards and wine and olive oil tasting at the nearby Château d'Estoublon (maybe my favorite experience of all!). We ended our trip in Nice. All of our hotel stays were wonderful with free breakfasts to die for! Transfers to and from airport and trains were booked for us so we didn't have to arrange any of that ourselves. We had one tour in Nice that we weren't happy with and Kimkim immediately responded and refunded part of our payment. I can't say enough about how professional our specialist, Liz and her team were, and how responsive they were to whatever questions we had before and during our trip. We will book again with Kimkim without hesitation!

Hotel West End
Nice

This hotel was lovely and overlooking the Riviera next to the famous Hotel Negresco. It was in a great location near restaurants and shopping. The hotel is beautiful with a red carpet leading from the outside in. Our staff was friendly and helpful and greeted us at our car to help take our bags to our room and recommended a wonderful place to eat as we were hungry when we arrived. Our room was beautiful with a convenient bathroom and nice tub/shower, however, the tub was very high to step in to and my husband has some physical limitations due to an accident a few years ago. He had a bit of trouble stepping into the tub but we managed ok. We did not ask about changing rooms. The hair dryer was a bit different and got very hot as I was drying my hair due to the way it was made so that was a bit inconvenient. Also, we noticed several times when we were in the lobby that there were times that there was no bellhop to help people with luggage as they were getting out of the car and they were lugging it up the stairs themselves.

This hotel was adorable and in a great location near a convenient metro stop. The staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful and spoke English. The buffet breakfast was amazing with most anything we wanted! The hotel was very clean and within walking distance to the Grand Boulevards metro stop as well as several good restaurants. My only complaint was that our standard room was a bit small and difficult to organize with our luggage. The shower stall in the bathroom was almost too small for my husband who is 5'10" to comfortably shower and wash his hair. And I found the hair dryer very inconvenient as a button had to constantly be pressed for it to work.

This hotel was adorable and couldn't be any more central in the heart of Avignon. It is basically near anything you want to see! The staff was friendly and helpful and spoke English with us. Our room was small but fine for the two of us and the bathroom was convenient. The only issue we had was that there were two steps leading down to the bedroom as you walk through the door. My husband has some physical limitations due to an accident a few years ago and found it a bit difficult to navigate those steps. The staff immediately responded and said they would change our room, if needed. We decided that since our stay was short we would stay in the room we were in but appreciated their immediate response to our concern. The buffet breakfast was amazing!! Would definitely stay here again!

Something got mixed up with our tour so we were expecting something else so this was a bit less than what we expected but still enjoyable. This was held in a wine shop so our host was also the owner and had to stop to wait on customers during our experience. However, we took this time to get to know the other couple we met and enjoy the wine and cheese. This was a truly disappointing experience. The description we were given said we would have a guide that would take us around Monaco to see the sights, including the Prince's Palace and the casino. We basically had a driver that dropped us off in Monaco and told us he would pick us up in 1 1/2 hours. We had no idea where to go or what to do and didn't have time to get on a tour bus. We went to the casino, saw a small harbor and walked back to the van. Very disappointing as this was something we were really looking forward to. I don't even know what La Turbie is because we didn't actually go there. We went to a perfume factory and had a very quick tour then the driver took us to Èze, dropped us off, and said he would pick us up in 40 minutes. Normally, they are closed off if someone has the chateau booked for a wedding event so I would recommend going during low-tourist times. Our guide took us all around the gardens, olive groves and vineyards and gave us some history. She was wonderful! We then went into the chateau for our wine and olive oil tastings. Overall the trip worked out because I had to stay on top of changes and updates to make things go smoothly. I will walk through each day and what went well and what could be improved. Our trip was with my 80 year old parents, and my 10 year old daughter.

One takeaway that still confuses me is that we had the Siene Dinner Cruise until 11p, and then Versailles at 8a the next day. When I asked to move the Dinner Cruise, I was told it was not an option and non-refundable. But when I called the company, once in Paris - and paying international calling fees - they said it was not a problem but that the company that booked it had to ask to move it. Then it seemed like no problem. It seemed like KimKim just did not even want to try.

Day1 - we arrived in Paris with someone waiting with my name once we got through customs and had our bags. They had the wrong delivery address though and so we hand to figure that out and I had no cash yet to tip them.

Day2 Notre-Dame: We started early (9a) with a tour of the Notre-Dame. It would have been nice to sleep in a bit more and acclimate to the new time zone. Also there was some confusion in that we did not actually have tickets to the Notre-Dame, they just let us get in the very long line with everyone else, even though the title of the event was "Private Notre-Dame & Sainte-Chapelle Visit".

Day2 Louvre: For it being day1 after long travel, this made it a long day, but we did have a private entrance here. This guide seemed very scattered. The first thing we heard was that we were going to see the Mona Lisa, but we kept getting "distracted". This visit was supposed to be 2h, but it went about an hour over. If we had plans after we would have missed them. They give you a headset so you can hear them as you drift around a bit. Personally, I would rather had the easy entrance and then to just meet in the middle with a map and let us guide the route, and the person can speak to the things we are interested in. There is just so much there, and it was information overload. There are a ton of tour groups at the Louvre, so you need to pay attention to where your guide is.

Day3 Eiffel Tower: This worked out well, in that we got in quickly and had time to ourselves at the top.

Day4 & 5: We had food tours both of these days that had about half of the experience overlapped. Marais Pastry & Chocolate Tasting Experience - was all around sweets, and very interesting, and the guide was very good. The next day we had the "Montmartre Local Food Walk" tour with another very good guide, but they were not that different.

Day5 Siene River Dinner Cruise: This was good. Guidance on a dress code would be good here. There was a mix of folks dressed in full suits, and others in sweatshirts. Also, we do not drink alcohol so the fact that the agency paid for the wine paring for our whole table was a waste. Seeing the Eiffel blink at night was wonderful.

Day6 Shopping Day: This was nice to have a day to walk around and enjoy the city.

Day7 Parfume Making: This was very good, and we highly recommend this experience.
Day7 Baking Class: This was also wonderful and very kid friendly. We came home with so much bread!

Day8 Versaiiles: Taking the private van out to Versailles in the morning was the way to go. Going through the neighborhood of Versailles and visiting the queens grounds was all new to me. The guide here was very good as well.

Overall a very memorable trip.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a thorough and thoughtful review of your recent trip to France. It means a lot to us to hear your detailed feedback, as it helps us continually improve the experiences we curate.

We’re delighted to know that, overall, your trip was memorable and that you and your family—including your parents and daughter—were able to enjoy so many wonderful experiences, from the perfume making and baking classes to your time at Versailles and the Eiffel Tower.

Regarding your concerns, we truly appreciate your candor. I apologize for the confusion around the Seine Dinner Cruise and the subsequent Versailles timing. We always strive to advocate fully on behalf of our clients with vendors, and we will review this particular process with our partners to ensure more flexibility and clearer options for our future travelers.

The early start to Day 2 and the Notre-Dame tour issue are also valuable points. We understand that adjusting to a new time zone, especially with a wide age range in your group, requires careful pacing.

Thank you for sharing your experience at the Louvre and your preference for a more self-guided approach paired with key highlights. This is great insight and will help us tailor future itineraries better for guests who want a balance of expert commentary and freedom to explore at their own pace.

Your comments about the food tours, dinner cruise dress code, and wine pairing preferences are very helpful.

We’re very happy that you enjoyed the guided tours at Versailles, the shopping day, and the kid-friendly activities like the baking class. It’s wonderful to hear your whole family had special moments.

Thank you again for your detailed feedback and for trusting us with such a special multi-generational trip.

Overall we very much enjoyed the variety and expertise of our tours and guides! Here is a super-picky review just so you have details, but again we very much enjoyed our trip!!

Eiffel: guide was knowledgeable on how to make sure we would get to visit the very top given crowds and closures
Riverboat: great! one of our few chances to sit and have relaxing dinner as most days we were tired at the end of each day
Louvre: great run through the museum - guide was fantastic!
Notre Dame: guide was knowledgeable and talking points were interesting. Again, knew how to work the crowds
Loire: wonderful to see country outside of Paris for a day and the chateaux’s were great. DaVinci was a little underwhelming as but Amboise was beautiful - again we were in a hurry so I think we would have all liked more time in town to sit and eat a nice lunch (and browse) and I personally would have skipped the Luce just because we didn’t learn anything about DaVinci that we didn’t already know. We only had 30 min to get through Chambord. Maybe it was just too much for our group for the day, or maybe the guide should have kept us on schedule, but we still enjoyed the day trip.
Wine tasting: I enjoyed but the girls not so much
Perfume: fun and different!
Cooking class: chef was very nice, market was really cool (we all loved it) food was good, but no real cooking experience spent a lot of time there - maybe better for a longer trip or trip without teens
Versailles: great! again rushed in the actual palace (30 min to view before closing and some areas were closed) but bikes were fun and guide did a fantastic job with historical highlights
Opera/Passages: love the tour, guide was great! but we were all under the impression that we would get to do some shopping. It was great doing this at the end of the trip as it sort of touched on all the history we learned.
Food walk: guide was sweet and kind but the tour itself was not a highlight

Lodging: was nice! also nice to have a great little Italian place downstairs, but a couple of restaurant recommendations around lodging would have been fantastic - we were too tired to hit the bricks to look around and too hard to make a decision with 5 people. Nice accommodations, but may have been better to have been closer to our tours as we needed 45-1hr to get to them each morning.

Personally, I would have liked time to sit and eat between tours, but I like to eat :)

Kim Kim app: wonderful to have - here are thoughts for future
-push notifications when chat is enabled
-enable tour ratings in the app
24/7 help (by app or phone) on weekends as Karen mentioned

Other notes:
We found uber to be much better than taxi and the subway was clean and easy!

Thank you so much, Liz!

All of our private guides and tours were definitely the way to go for the 5 of us.....no waiting in lines or having to decide where to go, how to get there, or what to expect. The order of the daily activities was also good...one day built on the next especially learning about King Louis XIV...from the Chateaux Day tour, to the Louvre, to Versailles and finally the covered passages - he definitely got around. It's hard to pick out one favorite activity....each one had its highlight. Joel, our chateaux day trip driver and guide, Laurine at the Louvre, and Chef Dominque were exceptional. We all loved the Louvre teen quest tour- Laurine's stories made the sculptures, art works and history come alive. Since this was my 3rd visit to Versailles I enjoyed seeing the grounds by bike (even though it was a cloudy day and the gardens were not in bloom), but felt a little bad when our time at the Palace was cut short due to the length of the ride. The Opera Garnier was beyond imagination in decor. A special treat was seeing the outside and inside renovation of Notre Dame combined with Sainte Chapelle - our guide was able to go in with us, again a plus for having a private tour. Oh yes....and we all came home smelling very French!

We had 2 rooms for the 5 of us. The 2 teenagers enjoyed having their own room as did the 3 adults. The adult room had a sitting room with a twin sofa bed (very comfortable) and one bedroom with a double bed ( it would have been nice to have 2 single beds instead). As you would expect, the rooms were small but adequate. The kitchenette was nice for snacks and coffee. The hotel had a breakfast buffet but we did not partake. There was a nice bakery 2 doors down for morning pastries as we headed out early every morning. There was a nice restaurant next door plus small market just down the street. The neighborhood was very welcoming and within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower, Arc of Triumph and Champs-Elysees and close to 2 metro stations. We found taking an Uber or taxi to get across town was expensive since we were about 3 miles from the Louvre area where a lot of our activities took place so walking and the metro were our favorite modes of transportation!

Authenticity & Character
Older hotel with small lobby and nice sitting room with fireplace. Breakfast buffet was extra. Very nice courtyard and patio if we had had time to enjoy it!
Location
The walkable and local neighborhood. We did not have a view from the hotel but loved having the Eiffel Tower as our landmark especially at night.
Staff
Friendly and available to give directions.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Rooms were clean, bathroom/shower was nice. Extra towels were readily available. Would have been a little tight with 4 in the one room with the one bedroom and sitting room with the twin sofa bed.
