Luka Matukaite
I have a very special relationship with Iceland — to me, it’s not just a place of stunning scenery, but a land that reaches deep into the soul and inspires a true connection with nature. Exploring its wild landscapes taught me what it means to be fully present — to travel not just to see, but to truly feel a place.
Having discovered that magic for myself, I’m passionate about helping others experience it too — from whale watching in the Westfjords to taking a dip in a volcanic lake in the Highlands — while ensuring every journey through Iceland is seamless, meaningful, and unforgettable.
What places and activities do you specialize in?
"I specialize in designing individually tailored self-drive tours across Iceland that let travelers truly experience the country’s natural beauty. From iconic landscapes to the dramatic Highlands, my tours combine immersive hiking, stunning scenery, and thoughtful planning, so every journey is personal, relaxed, and unforgettable.
"
How did you get involved in travel?
"Iceland is my early-twenties sweetheart. :)
By the time I turned 20, I was so intrigued by Iceland's magical landscapes and natural wonders that I couldn’t just wait for luck to find me and bring me there — I had to pack my backpack and wade into adventure. Altogether, I spent a year living and working in hospitality in different parts of Iceland (the South, Westfjords, and North), which allowed me not only to discover the most famous sights but also to truly connect with the wilderness of this island.
My first trip to Iceland also revealed my great passion for traveling and led me to Kenya, adventures around Europe, and life in Spain, Norway, and Germany — and, of course, always coming back to Iceland."
Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.
"My first time in the Westfjords. The day started with a boat tour that led to seeing whales and puffins for the first time in my life — I felt like a little kid and couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. Later, we drove through the fjords, and the whole time I kept wondering how such incredible landscapes were formed.
At the end of the day, a tiny gravel road, completely covered in fog, led us to the Red Sand Beach. Oh boy — this place felt utterly unearthly. Low tide, fog, and complete silence surrounded us… until the krias started attacking! We had to run across the beach, dodging dive-bombing seabirds — a truly unforgettable adventure.
Before going to sleep, I said out loud, “This was the happiest day of my life.”"
