Kimkim Trip Reviews for Iceland

Noga and the Kimkim team planned the perfect Iceland vacation for us. We were two couples with a very vague idea of what we wanted to do, other than spending a few days in Reykjavik, and then renting a car and driving the Ring Road.

During our initial call, Noga listened to what we were looking for and then turned our loose ideas into an incredible itinerary. She planned the perfect blend of activities, including visiting an Icelandic horse farm, an off-road buggy adventure, a lava cave tour, a glacial hike, and lunch at a tomato farm (yes, you have to do this!). She also gave us plenty of suggestions for free-form activities, including hiking and visiting (many) waterfalls, historic sites, and charming towns.

Everything worked flawlessly, from hotel check-ins to tour arrangements. And throughout the trip, the Kimkim team was responsive through an app whenever we needed them. They helped when we were worried that we might not make it to a tour and they gave us restaurant recommendations along the way.

The Kimkim team’s hotel recommendations were spot-on; the places we stayed blended comfort, style and convenience (along with good food from the hotel restaurants). We’d asked for something midway between basic and luxury and Kimkim delivered.

They also streamlined the car rental process. When we picked up our car it included a wireless hotspot. We hadn’t even thought to ask about this and it turned out to be very useful. The car was the perfect size for us and our luggage (which seemed to expand over the trip as we visited a few sweater stores).

We couldn't have asked for a better-planned trip. We highly recommend Noga and the Kimkim team!

It was great having Gummi plan our Iceland trip from the car to the hotels to sights to see. Having the driving directions everyday was really great and knowing I could call him anytime if we had an issue was a great peace of mind. We had an unforgettable trip!

We had a great trip to Iceland in early September. Our specialist Gummi was wonderful; we could not have planned this trip so fast and so well without him. Overall, we liked every hotel and activity that he suggested. Every reservation was booked correctly and it was so easy to follow his directions and plans for the day.

After we booked, he helped us tweak our plans a bit more ... mostly to help us reduce the amount of driving. We did not do the whole Ring Road, but saw multiple areas from the peninsula to the east.

While we were on the trip, he alerted us to the Northern Lights on a certain day and gave us a last minute recommendation of another (!) waterfall to visit.

I would definitely recommend him!

Our trip was perfect, from beginning to end. Goumundar reached out to us by phone so we could communicate our interests and questions. We experienced Iceland with our amazing guide Bessi, who gave us an adventure of a lifetime!! Iceland is like no other place on earth! It’s spectacularly beautiful in all weather. We will no doubt return - maybe a winter visit!

Guðmundur Óli did a fantastic job planning our route and booking our excursions for our trip to Iceland. He was an incredible source of information throughout our stay, even responding quickly in the middle of the night when we lost our mapping route to help get us back on track.

The locations and excursions he booked were absolutely fabulous, and the accommodations chosen for our overnight stays were incredible. If Guðmundur is a representation of KimKim's travel planners, I highly recommend using your services for any travel destination.

Fantastic!! Eric was so professional, knowledgeable and such attention to detail, he put together the perfect vacation plan for us. This was the first time we used a service like this and we would highly recommend it!! After some initial interviewing of what was important to us followed up with phone calls a sample itinerary and final itinerary. K Èric then took care of ALL of our bookings, car rental, hotels and excursions. He then send us a detailed day by day itinerary of any spots we would like to view on our own for each specific day along with all our confirmations. Eric was again so professional with adjustments we wanted to make before the trip after the itinerary was booked. He was a fabulous source for all our questions pre trip and even available for post trip questions when we got an unexpected bill from our last hotel his team handled it on their end. He even reached out to us as we were traveling to let us know of a road work we would experience within a few days and all the links to monitor its scheduled times it would let cars pass. For a traveling Iceland “ on our own” we never felt alone. We knew they were just a call away.

Gummi contacted me right away after we filled in our interests. I was really impressed with Gummi's depth of knowledge and efficiency in planning our 10 day trip despite the short notice. He was able to understand the way we like to do our trips and was able to accommodate our ambitious itinerary. He got us the best possible private guide and driver, David, who was with us for our whole trip. Not only were we able to enjoy all the activities we had planned, David was able to incorporate a few more hidden gems as we traveled. Gummi and David made our Iceland vacation very effortless and relaxing . There were no hidden costs or issues we faced during our trip. A few times the cars GPS couldn’t find our destination, so we used the link in your app with Google Maps and found our way. We had a little trouble with the Parka app at the airport, but otherwise had no problems parking. It might be helpful to note that the Blue car rental office is behind the hotel. Your Zoom meeting pre-trip was helpful to take care of any last minute questions and concerns.

Gorgeous country and easy to follow itinerary

The support that we received from start to finish was exemplary. The guidance regarding how much territory to cover and the specific sites was perfect. We were not rushed and we saw a lot. The specific site were visited were amazing. The Thorsmork jeep experience was especially good as we were able to hike in a variety of different terrains. Our guide, Carlos, was wonderful. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and personable. The other outstanding location was the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. It was unlike anything I have ever seen. Our Zodiac boat ride, captained by Hurdur, was a highlight. His appearance, skill, knowledge, and engagement was perfect.

The hotels were exactly what we were looking for and met all our expectations. The breakfasts were a perfect way to start our day; with a full belly. There was a wide assortment of good food and plenty of good, strong coffee.

I'm not sure whether KimKim had any control over the weather, but that worked out very well for us too! The only rain we had was during the nights or while driving. It did not affect our outdoor plans at all. And to top it off, we were finally able to see the northern lights on our last night. Great job all around for your team. I highly recommend them to assist in your vacation planning. And knowing that they were always available if we ran into problems, was another plus.

Our guide, Gummi, was so helpful with his suggestions and when we had to pivot one day he quickly responded with an alternate plan. All of the hotels were great and his suggestions for lunches en route were amazing! The travel directions he provided each day were critical to us getting where we needed comfortably (although the road to Landmannalugar was not comfortable but worth it!). We spent 2 days in Reykjavik, 2 days in the Snaefellsness Peninsula, 4 days in the Hella region, including a Super Jeep tour in Porsmork, a day in Vik for a glacier and ice cave tour, and a day in the Jokusarlon area, where we kayaked in the Jokusarlon Glacier Lagoon, which was thrilling. Wish we had time for the Westfjords, but we know we’ll be back!

Wow, what a room, what a view! Very clean and largest of all the rooms we stayed in, truly luxurious but that is what I wanted for our last night in Iceland. Our room was warm and they said it had air conditioning, which is rare in Iceland, but it wasn’t working, so they set up a Dyson fan and opened an unreachable window to cool it off for us and it was fine. You can see over the whole city and the ocean. They bring breakfast to your room at the time you select. You do need a key card to get to their floor at the top of an office building, so they need to know when you arrive. We walked to a local place for dinner, Potturinn og Pannan, which was great and an 8 minute walk. A special experience.

Beautiful hotel, only 2 years old, just 10 minutes past the Lagoon. Nice clean and spacious room, although quite warm since it was sunny, but they had Vornado fans in our room and we used them! They said breakfast did not come with the room since it was booked through a third party, but the coffee and tea you could still get from the dining room at no charge. We had a great dinner there. There are 3 big hot tubs overlooking the glacier, which we used, and that was nice.

We arrived very early, but were able to get checked in so that we could drop our bags and rest before that day’s activities. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and had a back deck so that after dark we could monitor the Aurora situation, and they came out so that we could see them with our naked eyes, which for me was a highlight! They do not offer free breakfast and their restaurant is basic, so we went into Vik and got Black Crust Pizza, which was very good, and brought it back to the room, which had plates, utensils, and everything you’d need to do that or even make your own dinner. We also purchased breakfast fixings for the next morning, which we stowed in the small refrigerator in the room.

Great ride in high clearance vehicle to glacier, fitted with crampons, then followed guide through a trail up the glacier to the ice cave, which was beautiful. The ice changes every day due to melt and refreeze, so the cave was pretty small at the beginning of September, but I would still do it again.

Our trip was planned from start to finish. Everything was taken care of. Adam did a fantastic job.

It is hard to summarize how incredible our trip to Iceland was. Noga, Maria, and Nick were so helpful in the planning. This was our first international trip with our kids (5 &7) and I felt more prepared than I ever thought possible. I can't really pick our favorite thing, because all of our days were full of favorites. The Folklore Walk in Reykjavik with our guide Stephen was a great way to start of our trip. The kids were engaged and we learned a lot about Icelandic culture. We stayed in Stykkishomur on the 3rd and 4th nights of our journey and we fell in love. The hotel had a disc golf course on site and that was an amazing surprise for my husband who is an avid disc golf player. We loved the Black Sand beach, the Geothermal Bakery Experience, and the Laugarvatn Fontana Spa. We were enamored with the waterfalls, the landscape, the moss, the volcanoes, everything along the way was incredible and at one point my kids said "is this a dream??" and I thought maybe it was. On the last full day we did a Food Walk in Reykjavik with guide Andre/Snowy, and this was a complete trip highlight. Both of my kids adored him and we all enjoyed the food (they are adventurous eaters!). Before the airport we hit the Blue Lagoon which was a great way to relax before the airport. We were sad to leave and really excited for our next travel adventure! Thank you kimkim! 10/10

The Lava Show in Vík was an incredible experience. It made me feel like a kid again, seeing something so unique and fascinating. It was very informative and my son, who was seven at the time, couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the trip. Truly awesome.

Our guide Andre/Snowy, was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable and engaging. Our kids were the only kids on the tour (they love trying new food!) and they were obsessed with Andre. He told them stories about growing up in Iceland and he talked to them while still staying engaged with the group. This was a very memorable experience for us all.

We were not able to open windows due to the very prominent sulfur smell from the geothermal areas which made the room hot. Shower pressure was great. We had a wonderful trip, much of it made possible made possible by Adam, who curated a great week for us. I confess to having been skeptical about whether having a planned trip -- as opposed to doing it ourselves -- was worth it. I have for decades planned vacations and travel. Done the research, found the hotels and restaurants, and made decisions about where to go and when. I enjoyed that challenge. But, it takes a lot of time and effort.

We had planned a cruise from Iceland and our calendar freed up a little and we thought it would be fun to see a little bit of Iceland on our own. The problem was I didn't have the time available to plan . . . . so the research I did was to find a great company that could do the planning for us. That brought us to KimKim -- and Adam. We could not have been more pleased by the entire experience. We told Adam what we liked and the time we had and a complete itinerary appeared not long thereafter.

Adam far exceeded my abilities to have planned this by myself, and I have done it for years and am good at it. Driving maps, places to stop, tours along the way day after day, great hotels, super restaurant recommendations -- he had it all for us. Having everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, on our iPhone was a benefit that was enormously helpful for daily travels. Adam found places I probably would have skipped (Westman Islands and Heimaey, for example) and tours that I probably would have bypassed and that was one of the huge benefits of his services. He knew what was worth it to see and do and what was less exciting.

Most amazingly -- our daily plans: the route, the places to see, the tours, the sights along the way were planned so we were never rushed and saw everything as planned with little waiting or "gaps" in the day. Perfectly planned.

Adam provided excellent service throughout. About a week before we left for Iceland, we learned that we would need to cut our cruise short and hop off the boat halfway through the trip. We e-mailed Adam and he made all the arrangements for us to do that and planned a days worth if sightseeing for us in the area before we hopped on a plane to Reykjavik. He was always promptly responsive to texts and e-mails along the way as well.

This was a great adventure and Maria was awesome. Our only negative comment is that this tour company has you walk about 30 minutes to the start whereas other companies drive you right to the base.

We had the ABSOLUTELY MIST AMAZING time in our week in August in Iceland. I know it would have not turned out this great if it was not for KimKim abd having worked with Gummi. From the start, we had excellent communication and follow thru with Gummi. The itenerary planned worked out really well. All our accomodations were perfect. The plan easy to follow. We could have never planned this trip this well ourselves. To anyone planning an Iceland trip...I would highly suggest using Kim Kim and Gunni.
