Family Adventure in Ireland - 10 Days

Take a 10-day family-friendly tour through some of the highlights of Ireland with travelers of all ages on this itinerary. Start in Dublin before heading down the coast to County Cork, where you'll bike through a medieval city and hear the haunted and natural history of Killarney. Experience a classical manor in Limerick, followed by the landscapes of the Burren, Cliffs of Moher, and Aran Islands, before you and the family return to Dublin for one more full day of urban exploring.

Uncover Ireland's unmatched natural beauty with this week-long, family-centered trip to the Emerald Isle. Enjoy a swashbuckling adventure as you venture from colorful Kinsale to Limerick, playing pirates atop a 17th-century fort and learning the art of falconry at Adare Manor. Sail across the waves to the remote Aran Irelands and explore the famous Cliffs of Moher as you and the kids receive the warmest of welcomes on this charming tour.

In seven days, you can see three to four areas and many of Ireland's highlights. Consider a road trip, as this makes exploring much easier with kids. Sightsee in Dublin and then enjoy activities beyond the city, like kid-friendly hikes, beach time in the Connemara region, learning about history through castles and museums, a "magical" fairy trail walk in County Offaly, a ghost tour in colorful Kinsale, wandering by old stone structures on the Aran Islands, and taking a less-traveled route to the Cliffs of Moher.

Ten days is enough time to experience five to six destinations in Ireland. With popular stops like Dublin and Killarney, the Family Adventure is great for first-timers. The West Coast Road Trip's treasure hunts and farm visits are a hit with young ones and animal lovers, while the abundance of sports, such as surfing, on the South and West Road Trip makes it ideal for older kids and active families. The variety of the Outdoor Adventure, including toy-making and Celtic hurling, fits families of diverse ages and interests.

2 Weeks in Ireland - 3 Family-Friendly Itinerary Ideas

Road-tripping for two weeks in Ireland is manageable, even with young children. You can visit at least six destinations, though focusing on the country's north or south is best. Explore Belfast and the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland using Dublin as a jumping-off point. If venturing south, you can drive the Ring of Kerry, and it's easy to include the Cliffs of Moher in every itinerary. You'll surely experience family time at historical castles, on hiking trails, and along stunning coastlines.

Family Travel in Ireland

Ireland is full of kid-friendly outdoor adventures, fun ways to interact with ancient history, and cultural activities from falconry to farming. Chase the leprechaun legend in Carlingford, hang out with Ireland's favorite dolphin off the Dingle coast, or learn to surf on beginner-friendly beaches. The best part? Driving distances are short, with plenty of ways to keep little ones engaged along the way.

This is the cutest, coziest B&B! We had a family room and it was perfect, the sitting room was so cute and reminded us so much of grandma’s house! The location is perfect, a literal one minute walk to two great restaurants and pubs but also very quiet. The family running the place is just lovely and cook up a great breakfast!

Our trip to Ireland and Scotland was absolutely amazing.
We began in Dublin and stayed at the Kilronan House, a quaint place with a bed and breakfast feel. The rooms were extremely comfortable. The musical pub crawl was fun, also. A perfect introduction to Ireland! Then, we picked up our rental car (super easy process) and drove to Cashel to see the Rock of Cashel. We had pre-purchased vouchers for all of our planned stops, which I highly recommend b/c we were able to bypass several lines for ticket purchasing. We even took a random exit advertising Cahir Castle, which happened to have free admission on Wednesdays! In Killarney, we stayed at the Killaran House for 2 nights. Breda and her staff were exceptional! Our private guided tour of the Ring of Kerry was one of our trip highlights. Martin O'Riordan with M.O.R. Executive Travel IS THE BEST TOUR GUIDE. We all loved him. We took a horse & carriage tour of Killarney National Park & Castle (which was within walking distance of the Killaran House). Then, we drove to Doolin and toured the Cliffs of Moher, which were breath-taking. Our last top of the day was Galway (Hyde Hotel). The next day we drove to Belfast and dropped off the rental car. (I'm so glad we had a rental car - it gave us much more freedom.) A private transfer driver was waiting on us. (Cathy did a great job arranging all of our transportation needs!) We checked in to the Leonardo Hotel and then visited the Titanic experience. We had another private tour of the Antrim Coast and the Giant's Causeway. (We all agreed that we liked the private tours much better than the guided bus tour.) Cathy booked our flight to Inverness, Scotland from Belfast and arranged our transportation to/from the airports. She also booked our Loch Ness boat tour, our day trip to the Isle of Skye, and our train tickets from Inverness to Stirling to Edinburgh. Traveling by train was very easy and our lodging at the Redcliffe Hotel in Inverness included a wonderful view of Inverness Castle. Our lodging in Edinburgh (Apex Grassmarket Hotel) also included an incredible view of Edinburgh Castle. We felt really spoiled by Cathy. My family was very grateful for Cathy's expertise and knowledge in planning our trip to Ireland and Scotland. She made our vacation easy to navigate, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Ireland and Scotland.

The view from our window of the Inverness Castle was great. Within walking distance of downtown. They did a load of laundry for us and when we told them we were leaving too early to enjoy breakfast after our first night there, they prepared a lunch packet for each of us, including a sandwich, chips, fruit, a cereal bar, and a juice box. (We didn't ask for that.)

We loved our trip to Scotland and Ireland! Aleksandra did a wonderful job of planning the tour. She was also responsive to us, as we needed changes to the plans as we went along.

My most favorable experiences were the beautiful b&b’s, the bike tour on the Aran Islands, the tea and scones (everywhere), and the diversity of the food options and abundance of live music in the restaurants throughout the trip.

We found that one event per day was enough for us, and we enjoyed walking around the city streets and driving on the country roads.

One piece of advice I have for any traveler is to be clear with your tour planner what time you would like to start the day each day, when you need down time, and what transport you expect you will need and when.

Thank you, Alessandra and KimKim!

Number 59
Dublin

We liked this hotel, as it had a sauna, a cold plunge, and massages (the latter for a fee). The lounge was pleasant to sit in; it had a bar and looked out on the back garden. We could walk downtown. Excellent restaurants nearby. The hosts were helpful too, as I left a book light and paperback in the room when we departed, and they gave them to our friends to return it to us.
