Midgard Adventure

Midgard Adventure is located in the small town of Hvolsvöllur, central South Iceland. This is in the heart of Katla Geopark and is thus in the heart of many magnificent and varied sceneries.

The company was founded in the spring of 2010 and is both a travel agency and a tour operator and thus able of organising and planning all aspects of your itinerary including booking of hotels and activities.

For individuals, travellers and groups (of friends or family), we offer a very wide range of Icelandic adventures. This includes super jeep tours, hiking, climbing, horse riding, snowmobiling, ice climbing, northern light seeking (the aurora borealis) and much more.

We aim at all times to offer professional guiding services in the often by-passed rural and wilderness areas surrounding Hvolsvöllur and in Southern Iceland. Such locations contain scenic gems that offer superb experiences. In the company of our friendly, highly knowledgeable and empathetic guides, we hope to enhance your “feeling of discovery” to the maximum..

Midgard Adventure is a member of Vakinn, the official quality system within Icelandic tourism.

Midgard Basecamp was a great place to stay. Friendly staff, and great food and drinks! Our guide Bjarni Guðmundsson was awesome! We spent a few days with Bjarni exploring the wilderness and he knew lots of great spots to show us. I would definitely recommend Midgard Adventure!

I have just returned from a phenomenal trip to Iceland. Kimkim.com helped us establish a trip which included all the elements of adventure we were looking for. They utilized Midgard Adventures and Midgard Base Camp. Midgard added some completely unique dimensions such a hornet meal in a cave! They also quickly adapted when our snowmobiling trip was cancelled due to weather, the revised day was even better than we had planned. Iceland with Kimkim/Midgard is an absolute must !

Goody and Ziggy showed our group parts of Iceland that few tourists get to experience. We climbed to the bottom of a large crevasse on Mýrdalshreppur Glacier and had the whole location to ourselves. Ziggy gave us a personal tour of Midgard Base Camp and Goody introduced us to the owner of Hotel Ranga whose entertaining stories were “mostly true”. These personal touches made for an amazing trip.

We absolutely loved our private Super Jeep tour through eyjafjallajökull and thorsmork valley! Addi was super knowledgeable of the geography and fun to hang out with. He took us through some hidden canypns that only localers would know about!
Highly recommended!!

Midgard Adventure gave us the best vacation of our lives. All the members of the company are wonderful and went out of their way to make us feel at home, and indeed part of the Midgard family. They were extremely responsive to questions in the lead up to the trip and really cared about which activities were ok with a broken, and suggesting we spend time at the The Blue Lagoon rather than in the airport prior to pick up. The scenery is breathtaking, but Stefnir’s local knowledge and personal stories made it come alive in an amazing way. He was incredible and went out of his way to enhance our experience and his love and respect for the landscape will stay with me forever. The basecamp is warm, cozy and very functional with great bedrooms, food from their Swedish chef. We really enjoyed getting to know our fellow tour companions and have made some great new friends we will definitely stay in touch with. Best trip ever!!! Thank you Stefnir, Bjorg sndthe rest of the family of Midgard Adventure. I look forward to next time!

I communicated with Tanya using KimKim. My questions were answered within 24 hours (except on weekends or her days off). The responses I received were direct, professional, respectful, and thorough. I had concerns about communicating via email, as it took more time than if I communicated by phone, but the result was as complete and satisfying as it might have been by phone.

The staff at Midgard, with no exceptions, were helpful, polite, welcoming, and responsive. Tanya actually loaned me her clothes and shoes since my luggage hadn't arrived, and I was to go on a Super Jeep tour that would include weather changes, and river walking.

The dorm rooms, bathrooms, showers, and community room were clean and modern, and the beds private - with curtains facilitating the privacy. There was room at the foot of the bed to put some personal item and locked drawers sufficient to hold everything I had - and more.

I took the Super jeep Tour to Thorsmork (please excuse my Icelandic spelling from this point on!). Clara, the guide, was a terrific story teller, and provided a varied experience, including physical activity, which I found refreshing.

The Landmannalauger tour was less interesting to me - a lot of driving, and some opportunities for photos - with a short hike and a hot springs experience. This might be more suited for people who prefer an easier tour.

Unfortunately, there were several experiences I was unable to have - a biking trip and 2 of the shorter hikes - because there were not enough people signed up. The bike I rented was unsafe, but they had others I could use - I declined, but decided to try later, and Tanya, again my hero, loaned me her bike.

I went horseback riding - a treat, and snorkeled the tectonic plate divide - also a treat. Also, "Lava" the volcano and earthquake exhibit nearby was an amazing experiential education about both.

The meals I had there were excellent.

The hike was beyond beautiful and our KimKim guide was terrific. My family of five had a fabulous day of it. KimKim was great to work with and gave us great lunches and hiking poles and a surprise bbq at the end of the hike. This was expensive — but one of the best uses of our money in Iceland!

A fantastic day with a local guide - great hiking with some cool, secret canyons and waterfalls. Lunch was amazing. Best of all were Jon’s Saga stores and personal love for the region. More than we expected!

This was our first trip to Iceland so we depended upon KimKim to advise us on appropriate tours and day trips. While the weather was not ideal, we still had a great time, and are very satisfied with our guide and the itinerary. Highly recommend, particularly if you’re not familiar with Iceland.
