Morocco Immersion Tours and Adventures

Morocco Immersion Tours & Adventures is a family . . . literally. As direct descendants of the first dynasty of Morocco, our family history is entwined with that of Morocco. We founded Morocco Immersion because of our love of our Berber culture and our desire to share it with the world. With over 20 years of experience in the Moroccan tour industry, we provide safe and affordable adventures that allow you to immerse yourself in the beauty and magic of the REAL Morocco. When you travel with us, you aren’t a “tourist.” You are an honored guest of the family. And that is the BEST way to experience Morocco.

Our Philosophy

We have built our company on three basic principles:
1. Know our guests and be flexible. Unlike many tour operators in Morocco, our drivers are part of our team. That means that before you arrive in Morocco, your driver will have details about your interests and itinerary. Once you arrive, we are flexible with your itinerary. If you love a certain place and want to spend more time, we will adjust the rest of your itinerary on the fly to make it happen. If you see something on the road that you want to check out, just ask your driver to stop. Machi Mouchkil (“No problem”).
2. Provide immersive experiences. We believe that the real beauty of Morocco is the culture and the people. In addition to the “must see” sites, we will provide unique experiences that let you mix and mingle with the local people - No matter what level accommodations you prefer.
3. Give back. We are committed to the development of the communities in which we operate, so we partner with businesses that are locally owned and operated as much as possible. For you that means high-quality, non-touristy, responsible travel with stays in authentic accommodations (riads, kasbahs, berber tents) and unique access to the local people.

He was a consummate driver, provided us a better and realistic picture of life in Modern day Morocco as well as his daily kindnesses and his commitment to keeping us safe and on time. Our tour begin in Rabat where we met our favorite guide Hassania, who provided an excellent framework for the next week in terms of understanding the life of the Mortocan current King Hassan II, the role of Islam in the Morocco life, and the tradition of mosques in Morocco. Our favorite Riad was the elegant Riad Dar Chrifa in Rabat. The staff Omar and Papa at this Riad were incredibly friendly and helpful, and took care of Gray, the African gray parrot living there. Our favorite day was our road trip from Fez to Merzouga, including driving through the mountains, encountering the monkeys, the camel ride to Sahara Stars, and our lodging at this elegant glamping camp. Finally, one of my other favorite was our cooking lesson with Darr Salem in Maraskesh which involved going to market to buy the local ingredients for our meal, then my role as a sous chef and finally sitting down to have the yummy lunch in the home of our teacher!

Incredible Experience – Ask for Omar!

We cannot say enough amazing things about our experience with Morocco Immersion Tour and Adventures! If you are planning a trip to Morocco, do yourself a favor and book with them right now.
The seamless experience started with Sharon, who was fantastic to work with during the planning phase. She was incredibly responsive, available, and attentive from our very first conversation. We had a rough idea of what we wanted to see but lacked a clear vision. Sharon patiently mapped out a customized itinerary, listened to our feedback, tweaked the details, and answered our endless list of questions. She even provided a comprehensive packing list that had us feeling totally prepared and confident long before we boarded our flight.

While the planning was top-notch, our guide and driver, Omar, truly made this trip an unforgettable adventure! Omar drove us across the entire country and completely stole the show. He went above and beyond every single day to ensure we had absolutely everything we needed, constantly checking in to make sure we were comfortable and having fun. Thanks to his expertise, we went way beyond the standard city tourist spots and ventured deep into gorgeous rural landscapes and hidden gems we never would have discovered on our own. Omar didn't just drive us around; he immersed us in the local culture, and taught us so much about the country. His fantastic energy and care truly made us feel at home. Omar’s exceptional service turned this vacation into the trip of a lifetime. We are so grateful for the memories and highly recommend this company to anyone looking for an authentic, stress-free Moroccan adventure!

Riad Farouzi Fes

We had a lovely stay at Riad Farouzi Fes. Ibraham and Sabir went above and beyond to make our stay incredible. The amount of food at breakfast was over the top! There were eggs, pastries, fruit, fresh juice and coffee. When we got back from our tour in the afternoon they served us tea and cookies on the rooftop terrace. They always made sure we knew where we were going, and escorted us themselves when available.

We arrived at the Camp on camels at sunset, which was both beautiful and hilarious! The tents were very nice and clean, and once the A/C came on after dinner, we were very comfortable. The food was average, but service was fine. They had entertainment around the campfire at night. We were too tired to participate but it sounded like all of the other guests were having a great time. Omar and Abdul met us first thing in the morning at our Riad and escorted us to the van for a driving tour around the perimeter of Fez which gave us an overview of the city. We walked and learned how the Mellah-Jewish Quarter with exterior balconies differed from those of the Muslim Arabs. The ceramic co op provided an interesting insight into how the mosaics were made from the reverse side. The tannery was smelly as expected but it was interesting to learn how leather is processed. Abdul left us at a delicious and peaceful restaurant in the heart of the Medina while he went to pray.

After a stunning sunrise and breakfast we had a fun ride slaloming the dunes on a 4 x 4 ride from the tent camp, we were reunited with Omar. Our stop to see the ancient irrigation tunnels was very informative and impressive. We had a private guide give us a tour of the Tinghir Palmeraie. It was amazing to see all of the fruits, vegetables and grains that grow in the Oasis behind the homes. Our guide, Zak, treated us to a visit with his father’s “first” wife’s residence in the new part of the village. We also visited a Berber rug cooperative to see the rugs are made and we had a chance to purchase rugs too. Finally, we took a ride through the Todgha Gorge, a natural wonder. It was a holiday so it was very crowded, but we liked seeing the locals spending time with their families swimming in the river.

Day with the Locals in the Valley of Roses
Morocco

This was our favorite day of the trip! We started the day with Sharon's husband, Abdou, at a local rose farm and had an opportunity to pick roses with the locals and learn a little bit about how much this crop means to the area. We then went to the local market to choose vegetables that we took to the home of a local family. We spent the afternoon getting to know the family and how they live, and spent time with them in the kitchen watching them cook a traditional Couscous using the vegetables that we brought with us. A neighbor came over and gave all of us henna tattoos. We left this visit on such a high! On the way back to the Riad we had a chance to shop for some local rose products.

We stopped briefly in Ouarzazate and took a look at the Taourirt Kasbah. Our next stop was Aït Benhaddou, and Omar took us on a nice walk through the ancient, but still inhabited, hillside village. We walked all the way to the top, to the ancient "bank" building (which, unfortunately was badly damaged in the September 2023 earthquake). The view down across the village and the valley beyond was breathtaking. On the way to Marrakech we traversed the Atlas Mountains along the Tizi n'Tichka Path. We stopped at the top to take in the beautiful views.

Morocco is a beautiful country and in our 2-week stay, we were treated to an unexpected variety of geography. It was incredible how much the scenery changed from day to day, or even hour to hour- Cities, green farmland, what I like to refer to as "Arizona", snow-capped mountains, forests, oases, desert, ocean. You name it, we saw it! I know I was going to enjoy this trip immensely, but never in my dreams did I imagine how much I would love this country and these people. I certainly hope I am fortunate enough to return one day.

Seafood Lunch from the Wharf
Seafood Lunch from the Wharf
Essaouira

Lunch at the wharf was very casual. We thought it was going to be in a restaurant, but it turns out that you pick a spot, right nerar the water, select your seafood and have it cooked for you while you eat at picnic tables. It was a great experience, just not what we were expecting. Essaouira is more than fresh seafood. There are amazing sunsets from the beach, the medina is cute and manageable (but get most of your shopping done in Fez and Marrakech). Our favorite part was a bit serendipitous. We went for a late morning walk to the wharf, and just kept following it down to the end, and were able to watch the hustle and bustle of the fishing boats coming in and unloading their bounty. The controlled chaos was delightful to watch.

Quality of Experience
Loved to spend the end of the trip in a relaxing beach town.

Hicham, our tour guide was, again, incredibly knowledgeable. The city is amazing and it's history is too. His tour gave us a nice lay of the land, which was helpful for the following day, which was a free day, for us to wander around town at our own pace. One night we walked to the new part of Marrakech and had a great time. We had some fantastic dinners in this city.

Quality of Experience
Great tour, great city, so much to see and do.

This was another long day of driving. Fortunately, there were some stops to help break it up. Ait Ben Haddou was interesting, and had some beautiful views, but was kind of unremarkable. The rose cooperative was neat, but I imagined we'd see more fields of roses, considering we were there in peak season. We also made a quick stop at Atlas studios, but did not go in for the tour, it most mostly a chance to stretch our legs. Driving through the high Atlas mountains and seeing the geography change so completely again was great.

The guide for Ait Ben Haddou was not very engaging. He seemed like he had somewhere else he wanted to be, so I think we did not get the full experience we should have there.

I wasn't sure how to feel about this day, but I am so glad we had this opportunity. We started the day meeting up with another tour group from the same company and headed out to a local market to pick veggies for our couscous meal with the family. After that, we had a short tour of the area. Then we went to the family's house. There we were treated to a variety of local delights and a delicious meal. We also learned a bit more about the local culture. The family was wonderful- so kind and welcoming.

Quality of Experience
It was truly wonderful to spend some time with a local family.
Food
The couscous was great, but the "appetizers" were out of this world.

The walking tour was amazing. We got to experience, ever so slightly, a day in the life of a resident of the Valley of the Roses.

Another great day driving, with many stops/ sight to see. The fossils collective in Erfoud had some amazing pieces of fossil art. We stopped at a roadside shop where we tried on native Amazigh clothing and took pictures in them. The family that owned the store was so warm and welcoming. They even let my husband lead a little jam session after he saw an electric guitar sitting in the store. The whole family got involved! Next was the tour of the old village if Tighir (excuse any misspelling). Our guide there was again, fantastic. After that, a stop at the women's rug collective, then an absolutely incredible (and huge) lunch. Next was the Gorge, which was a cool little trek. It was great to see all of the families picnicking alongside it.

Quality of Experience
All of the wonderful people we met that day, combined with another beautiful drive made the day special.

"Other" Rachid, our tour guide in Fez, was amazing. He was incredibly knowledgeable, and grew up in Fez, so it was like having the "mayor" give us a tour. Everywhere we stopped, he knew someone. When we spent considerably more time in the pottery colletive, deciding on which piece to buy, we were never rushed. I'm sure Rachid stayed with us considerably longer than he had planned, so we could get the entire day's tour completed.

We styayed an extra day, just as a recovery day, which also happened to be my birthday. Rachid managed to get the restaurant to have a little cake/ celebration and he even showed up at the end to join us for dessert. It was truly special of him to have gone that extra mile. Dear Sarma,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this beautiful and detailed review. It was truly a pleasure to help you plan your adventure in Morocco, and I’m thrilled to hear that the experience was “about as perfect as it could be.”

Rachid will be overjoyed to know how much you enjoyed your time with him over the two weeks — he really does care deeply about his guests, and your words will mean a lot to him. I’ll also be sure to pass along your kind feedback to Hassania, “other” Rachid, Hicham, and the rest of the team. They take great pride in sharing their cities and stories with visitors, and it’s wonderful to know that their warmth and knowledge helped bring Morocco to life for you.

You captured the spirit of Morocco so well in your description — from the ever‑changing landscapes to the kindness of the people. It makes me very happy to know that the country touched you in such a meaningful way and even exceeded what you had imagined.

On behalf of all of us here in Morocco, thank you again for trusting us with your trip. We would be absolutely delighted to welcome you back one day and help you discover even more of this beautiful country.

Thanks,
Nihad, and the rest of the Morocco Immersion family.

Hotel Review
Hôtel & Ryads Barrière Le Naoura
Marrakech

Great place to end our trip! Suite gave us room to spread out and organize our stuff, amenities included in room coffee and tea, minibar and large closet with iron. Huge bathroom suite provided bathrobes and slippers, plus there was a half bath. Beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed spending time on the double balcony overlooking the pool. Included breakfast buffet had wide variety of sweet and savory items, lunch and dinner menus were also extensive and all items were delicious. There is also a bar which also provides service to the pool.

Authenticity & Character
Decor is chrome, black, white, red and tan. Not especially Moroccon but very nice.
Location
Right next to Craft complex which had a great variety of items that were also found in the souk. Ten minute walk to medina entrance and short drive or longer walk to Majorelle Garden.
Staff
Restaurant staff were great, also concierge staff.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Beds were great, daily housekeeping, nice towels.

Guide was good but felt I didn't get a sense of the Medina other than the 2 shops (clothing & leather/tannery - which was interesting) where we went. Granted it was raining and maybe there weren't open air stalls there but would have liked to have seen more. The clothing shop, Maison du Kaftan, was wildly overpriced - a shirt I was originally quoted for at MAD 1600 and for which I paid 800 MAD I later saw in Marrakech for 200 MAD. I understand I didn't have to buy it but want to put out a buyer beware warning as this was early in our trip, we were tired, not familiar with currency conversion nor what things cost. Good think I like the shirt!

Overall we were happy with the experiences we had on our trip. During the planning process, Nihad was receptive to my ideas and answered my questions. Our driver/tour manager Mo was very professional, punctual (other than when first picking us up from the airport, but that was because he was not provided the most up to date arrival time), and knowledgeable.

1. The hotel stays that Nihad booked us in were below our expectations. I suspect though, that there are not a lot of options for stays outside of Marrakesch. Each hotel was clean and staff were very hospitable and friendly, and so we very much appreciated those positive attributes. Many of the stays did not have basics such as shampoo or shower soap, including the "luxury desert camp" that we stayed in. Since we pack light, we don't travel with our own shampoo or soap, so not having it available in the hotel is a disappointment.

2. We did not find out until the end of the trip how extraordinarily expensive the taxi ride from the airport to our first hotel was. Nihad arranged a taxi ride (it ended up being our trip driver/trip manager) that would cost $50 USD. Well, at the end of the trip from the same area in the medina, we booked our ride through our hotel to the airport and it was only $20 USD. I eventually saw on social media afterwards that a reasonable price is 100 Dirhams (equivalent to $10 USD). Therefore, the $50 USD we were charged was exceptionally more expensive. If Nihad does not know this, please let her know so that future guests are not charged that much.

3. Our city tour/food tour with Hussein was a nice overview of the city, visiting a lot of the highlights of the city. The food part of the tour was not enjoyable, but understandably authentic. The last restaurant served us dirty utensils to eat with so that left us with a bad taste with regards to the food part of the trip. Hussein though was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would just suggest perhaps cleaner restaurant options if possible.

4. For tours driving to different cities, drive time estimates ahead of time would be nice (could just include that on the itinerary shared with the guest ahead of time) so we can be prepared.

5. Slightly disappointed we could not do the camel ride on the way back from our desert camp. According to the camp, we were supposed to have "reserved " it when we started the camel ride to the desert camp but we were never told that when we took that camel ride- it would have been nice to have known that up front.

Again, overall, it was a wonderful cultural experience. In retrospect knowing what I know now, I would probably book my own hotels and ask more questions before the trip. It's hard to know though when one has never been to a country to know what questions to ask.

Dear Greta,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such thoughtful and detailed feedback. I truly appreciate both your kind words and your constructive comments, and I’m very glad to hear that you had a wonderful cultural experience in Morocco overall.

I’m especially happy that you felt supported during the planning process and that Mo and Hussein took good care of you. They will be pleased to know that you found them professional, friendly, and knowledgeable.

I also want to sincerely apologize for the aspects of your trip that did not meet your expectations:

You’re absolutely right that in some smaller towns and rural areas outside of Marrakech, the accommodation options can be limited, and standards/amenities can vary compared to larger cities. Your feedback about basic items like shampoo and shower soap is very helpful.

The transfer is a private service with a private driver and car. So it’s quite different from taking a taxi ( public transportation).

I’m glad you enjoyed the overview of the city and found Hussein friendly and knowledgeable, but I am very sorry about the experience with dirty utensils at the last restaurant. I will follow up with Hussein so he can be more selective and attentive to these details going forward.

I’m sorry about the miscommunication regarding the camel ride return. You absolutely should have been informed at the start if a return ride needed to be reserved in advance.

Thank you again for trusting me with your trip and for sharing such honest feedback—it’s incredibly valuable. My apologies for the issues you experienced.

Wishing you many more wonderful travels, and I hope Morocco will remain a special memory despite the bumps along the way.

Warm regards,
Nihad, Morocco Immersion Tours & Adventures Family
