Best of Nanyuki

Top itineraries and travel advice in and around Nanyuki
One of Kenya’s most cosmopolitan destinations after Nairobi, Nanyuki is a buzzing city of 50,000 that’s a major hub for expats and travelers. There’s a lively market here, and a good range of accommodation options at all price points. You can load up on supplies before heading into the wilderness, and treat yourself to a decadent meal after an action-packed safari. Nanyuki also has decent nightlife, with cafes and laid-back bars where you can swap travel stories over cold drinks.

Just outside of Nanyuki, you’ll see a signpost marking the equator. There you can stand in both hemispheres while checking out the crafts for sale by local vendors. The surrounding landscapes, though, are the real reason to come to Nanyuki. Its location near Ol Pejeta Conservancy to the west and Mount Kenya to the southeast make Nanyuki a great base for adventure. The town is also a key stopping point for journeys to Samburu, located a further two hours’ drive to the north.
