Best of Amboseli Park

Top itineraries and travel advice in and around Amboseli National Park
Amboseli Park is one of the best places in the world to see free-ranging elephants, and the sizable nature reserve is also famous for its dramatic setting at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Apart from elephants, the park is home to a wide range of wildlife, including wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, lions and cheetahs, along with over 400 bird species. Located in southern Kenya, the park’s relative proximity to Nairobi (around five hours’ drive to the north) make Amboseli a top safari destination.

On a two-day trip to Amboseli, you can visit a number of different habitats, from the open plains and acacia woodlands to dry lake beds and the marshy swamps running across the middle of the park. After a day of spotting wildlife (with a high probability of seeing elephant herds), by evening you can visit Maasai villages and gain insight into deep-rooted pastoral traditions. Most travelers visit the park during the drier months (January, February, and June to October).
