Traveling from the capital city of Lisbon to the town of Beja is a journey of 111 miles (178 km). Driving is a convenient option and gives you the opportunity to go at your leisure. Public transport is easy and comfortable with frequent bus departures daily and trains departing from various stations. By Car

Duration: 2 hours

Driving is an efficient and fast way to reach Beja and gives you a chance to see some of the interior scenery of Portugal. The quickest route takes around 2 hours without any stops.

The route is direct, taking the A2 highway for most of the journey and then the IP8 highway for the last leg of the trip. Shortly after departing, you’ll cross the Tagus river on the suspension bridge Ponte 25 de Abril. You'll pass by small towns, farms, and shrubland. 

This route has tolls like most highways do in Portugal. There are alternative routes if you want to avoid tolls, just be prepared that your travel time will be a lot longer.  

By Train

Duration: 2-3 hours

Riding on the train is a quick and easy way to get from Lisbon to Beja and offer views of landscapes unseen from the highway. 

Trains depart from four stations in Lisbon-Entrecampos, Oriente, Santa Apolonia, and Sete Rios- with services four times a day, in the morning and in the evening. Train travel is around 2-3 hours depending on route and type of train. You can purchase train tickets online or at the station and if you know your travel dates in advance, there are often promos when buying online. 

By Bus

Duration: 2.5 - 3.5 hours

Going by bus is comfortable and easy with plenty of bus departures daily. Buses are operated by Rede-Expressos and have frequent service throughout the day- from morning until the evening- leaving from Lisbon Sete Rios bus station.

The journey takes anywhere from 2 hours and 15 minutes to 3 hours and 15 minutes,s depending on the time of departure so pay attention to travel duration when buying your ticket. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day of departure.
