Coffee Finca - Hiking - Explore Salento, Salento

Overview

It's fitting that Salento, one of the most beautiful colonial towns in Colombia, is surrounded by the Valle de Cocora (Cocora Valley), which happens to be one of the most beautiful valleys in Colombia. This fertile region, denoted by rolling green hills, abounds with various coffee estates that have been growing Colombia's famed beans for generations. Even just a brisk three-hour tour allows folks to both hike through the hills and pay a visit to one of these coffee farms.

First up on the tour is a nature hike. It begins at the trailhead in the Valle de Cocora (Cocora Valley), just outside of Salento's town center. It doesn't take long before the soaring Quindío wax palms (Colombia's national tree) come into view, as these are the tallest trees in the world (they can reach heights of up to 70 meters/230 feet).

After hiking over mountain streams and through tropical forests, it's time to visit a working coffee farm. Here guest will learn the process of harvesting and processing the coffee beans before enjoying a delicious tasting. The tour ends back on the streets of Salento amid the colorful homes, street musicians, and handicraft markets.
