Explore Chichén Itzá, Chichén Itzá

Overview

Explore the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. With the help of a local guide, you'll make your way through this historical indigenous city, once the most revered center of worship and pilgrimage in the Yucatan Peninsula. The complex of Mayan ruins offers a glimpse into what life was like for the tens of thousands of inhabitants that lived here between the 8th and 12th centuries.

Of course, Chichen Itza's main attraction is the stepped pyramid of Kukulkan (El Castillo). Sitting at 98 feet (30 m) high, the pyramid is the tallest structure of Chichén Itzá, but many other significant Mayan and Toltec buildings, sculptures, and reliefs await you! You'll find the Temple of the Warriors and the Great Ball Court in the Great North Platform. The Osario Group includes the Osario Pyramid and the Temple of Xtoloc, whereas the Central Group has the El Caracol observatory, Las Monjas, and Akab Dzib. But, of course, you don't want to miss the Hall of the Thousand Columns, the Chacmools,  and the Sacred Cenote (underwater ground pit).

Let your imagination run wild as you learn about the life of the Mayans, all through architecture, historical anecdotes, fascinating stories, and more.
