Sunrise at Chichén Itzá, Chichén Itzá

Overview

Rise early and chase the sunrise to the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Sunrise is an incredibly special time to explore this cluster of Mayan ruins, as you'll have the space nearly all to yourself and can enjoy it without the heat of the day. Additionally, the light of daybreak drenches the site, one full of fascinating history, in a magical glow.

This pre-Hispanic city was the most notable capital of the Mayan region at the end of the Postclassic period. When the Spanish arrived, it was a large city with a diverse population reaching tens of thousands of residents. Additionally, Chichén Itzá was the most revered center of worship and pilgrimage in the Yucatan Peninsula.

After taking in the glow of sunrise, enjoy walking the grounds with your local guide. Discover the history of Mayan life through its architecture, historical anecdotes, interesting stories, and more. Of course, the most famous structure in Chichén Itzá is the Pyramid of Kukulkan (El Castillo). However, you'll also explore many other significant Mayan and Toltec buildings, sculptures, and reliefs, including the Chacmools, the Temple of the Warriors, the Hall of a Thousand Columns, and the Ball Game Field, to name a few.
