Fishing Boat Adventure in the Saronic Gulf

Piraeus marina
Athens is a thriving port city, and it sits right on the Saronic Gulf, which is formed between the peninsulas of Attica and Argolis, in the Aegean Sea. Like many gulfs in the world, it is the lifeblood of fisherman in the region. A day-tour of the Saronic on a traditional kaiki (fishing boat) reveals much insight into this seafaring lifestyle. It begins in Athens' port suburb of Piraeus in Pasalimani, a hub for these small kaiki boats. Leading the tour is a local fisherman who imparts much knowledge about Greece's time-tested fishing techniques as he sails out to local fishing grounds and demonstrates traditional fishing methods.

The second stop on the tour is Fleves island. Activities here include fishing or simply enjoying a swim right from the boat. Lunch is served onboard (seafood, naturally) and before the tour ends the day's catch will be divided among guests to take back and prepare on their own.
