What you'll do

With a self-guided visit to Friðheimar Farm, a pioneering agricultural estate famed for its tomatoes, you can customize your experience from a handful of pre-booked activities, suitable for visitors of any age (with significant discounts for kids under 14).

During the private greenhouse visit, you'll walk among the rows of thriving tomato plants while learning how Friðheimar harnesses Iceland's geothermal energy to recreate Mediterranean growing conditions—even through Iceland's long, dark winters. Along the way, your host will explain the cultivation process, from seed to harvest, and how the farm uses cutting-edge, eco-friendly methods like biological pest control and renewable energy to produce flavorful tomatoes.

Following the greenhouse visit, consider sitting down to a tomato-centric meal inside the greenhouse restaurant, surrounded by the dense fruit-bearing vines of five tomato varieties—an oasis of greenery in the Icelandic countryside. The menu celebrates the farm's signature crop, with simple but popular dishes like the crowd-favorite tomato soup served with freshly baked bread, as well as fresh pasta, salads, and other creative tomato-based specialties, including interesting desserts, such as two kinds of tomato ice cream or cheesecake topped with tomato jam made from green tomatoes.

A visit to Friðheimar wouldn't be complete without checking out the farm's stables for an introduction to another Icelandic treasure: the Icelandic horse. Known for its strength, gentle temperament, and unique five gaits, this resilient breed has been part of Icelandic life for over a thousand years. During your stable visit, you'll learn about the horses' history and characteristics before watching a demonstration that showcases their distinctive movement (the latter only available during the summer).

There's also the more adult-friendly wine bar, a quieter space serving drinks and lighter fare, located in one of the estate's oldest greenhouses, and the farm shop, a great spot to browse tomato-inspired treats and food souvenirs—a tasty reminder of your time at this one-of-a-kind farm.
