What you'll do
The adventure starts with a scenic 30-minute drive from Geiranger up the Dalsnibba mountain (at an elevation of about 4,843 ft/1,476 m) to arrive at the Geiranger Skywalk. This drive itself is a visual treat, with numerous photo opportunities en route, particularly of the Geirangerfjord, a part of the West Norwegian Fjords UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Once at the summit, you'll step onto the state-of-the-art "skywalk." This viewing platform officially opened in 2016 and features an iron grid floor and a glass guard rail, helping to (safely) provide uninterrupted views that create the stomach-churning sensation of floating above a 1,640-foot (500 m) drop. Breathe in the crisp mountain air as you enjoy panoramic vistas of Geiranger, its namesake fjord below, and the Blåbreen glacier.
If there's interest, you can head indoors to shop for items like local Fjordnær chocolates or clothing from Norwegian brands at the Geiranger Skywalk Shop or walk over to the on-site café for a sandwich or something sweet while taking in the unmatched views of the Geirangerfjord. For a more interactive experience, try the Viscope telescope, which offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding area. This innovative tool magnifies the scenery and identifies the names and directions of visible mountains and distant locations like Oslo and Bergen inside the viewfinder. After soaking up the views, you can drive back down to Geiranger.
The Geiranger Skywalk is open throughout the warmer months, typically from May to October, depending on weather conditions and road access.
