Glanni Waterfall, Borgarnes

Overview

Set off the Ring Road near the town of Borgarnes and just north of Reykjavik, the Glanni Waterfall is said to be the dwelling place of elves and trolls. It flows down the Nordura River, and the cascade, which is as wide as the river itself, falls down into three segments, each with multiple tiers. When the water hits the rocks below, it glimmers in the sunshine, which gives the cascade its name, as Glanni means "light" or "shining."

To get to the waterfall, you'll park your car in a nearby lot and follow the trail to a viewing deck. Then, enjoy the views of Glanni and its picturesque surroundings. The waterfall is near the Grabrok volcano and the Grabrokarhraun lava field.
