Very unique experience. Interesting opportunity to walk across a large lava flow field to the access point and to step down into the lava cave. The wooden walkways/steps made access easier. Interesting geology that was well explained by our guide. We did not see any stalactites or stalagmites as stated in the activity description. Read more

Tips for future travelers

Check the weather conditions in advance. The roads leading to the Lava Cave area can be from paved roads to gravel with many potholes. The day we visited, winds were excessive making it difficult to walk to/from the lava cave access point.

Tips for future travelers

You will need to be comfortable going up and down stairs to get into the cave - one person in our group looked at the climb down and went back to the ticket area. There is one spot that is tight getting into the cave and could cause someone who didn't like tight spaces to hesitate. It's a short distance to travel and the guides help but you have to be able to manuever the space.
