Hike to la Kasbah du Toubkal in the High Atlas Mountains

5.0 (3 reviews)

Overview

Hiking in the High Atlas Mountains is a popular activity in Morocco, with numerous trails taking you up to incredible scenic vistas, along serene rivers, and into picturesque valleys. If you're in Marrakech or staying in the mountain town of Imlil, Toubkal National Park is a great hub for daily hikes. One of the highest points in the area (aside from the summit of Mt. Toubkal, of course) is the la Kasbah du Toubkal. From here, savor the incredible scenery of meadows, valleys, and mountain peaks.

This moderate trek starts from Imlil and takes you along a scenic stretch to mountain streams and beautiful vistas. As you reach the babble of the twisting creeks, take a break to enjoy your lunch amongst the splendor of  Imlil Valley. Afterward, continue through the Aït Mizane Valley and stop in the town of Aroumd. Before heading back to Imlil, you'll learn about daily life in the region's Berber villages.

We loved this hike and our guide was great. We did get lead into a local rug shop, which was lovely, but as always made us feel some pressure to buy something. We didn't anticipate needing a guide for a hike, but it was really nice to have a local's knowledge of the villages we walked through. Read more

Tips for future travelers

The hike is pretty far with a little bit of scrambling, so just wear good shoes!
