Horseback Riding in the Golden Circle, Golden Circle

4.8 (4 reviews)

Overview

Just outside Reykjavik is one of Iceland's most picturesque geothermal areas, filled with steaming streams, geysers, and rivers. Explore the area's unique and diverse scenery memorably while on horseback!

After getting acquainted with your horse and equipment, you'll set off up a hill following excellent riding trails. Next, you'll follow along the slopes of Mt. Reykjafjall and through a green forest, a rare sight in Iceland. Then, you'll pass many hot springs in the impressive, colorful geothermal area situated just above the village of Hveragerði, a small town also known as the "hot spring capital of the world."

This area expanded dramatically during an earthquake in 2008 and is constantly changing. The path continues along the volcanic hills above the village, known for its beautiful location between the volcano Hengill and the wide plains of the southern lowlands. Enjoy a nice view of the Varmá River (called the "warm river," as geothermal water flows through it) and green valleys with rising steam in the distance.

During the winter season, you'll stop to warm up with a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate and learn more about the Icelandic horse breed before riding back to the farm.

Great first riding tour of the trip. Three guides in our 15 person group. Very safety conscious. Horses were great and all appeared well cared for. Raincoats, gloves, whatever you needed was available to borrow. Ride has a good mix of walking and tolt. Read more

Fun to ride Icelandic horses, however some of our horses did not seem interested in following the commands given. Staff seemed on autopilot. Not super enthusiastic. Would maybe try a different horse riding experience next time. Read more
