Nighttime Sloth Observation in Arenal/La Fortuna

You might spot a sloth on the trail

Witness the curious sloth in its natural habitat, one of Costa Rica's most beloved animals. This unique creature captivates its audience with tenderness and peculiarly slow behavior. The La Fortuna area is an ideal habitat when it comes to sloths: its climate, ecological protection, availability of food, and essential absence of predators make it an oasis for the species.

Enjoy a night observing the two-toed sloths, which are more active after dark. First, you'll walk along a one-mile (1.5 km) trail, suitable for adults, families, and children of all ages. Enjoy strolling through amazing flora alongside a river and underneath the Guarumo trees (the sloth's favorite food). Although sloths are solitary animals and spend most of their time sleeping or eating, your specialized guides are experts at finding them, so you're guaranteed to see them!

During the tour, you'll learn about the importance of sloth protection: Due to the animal's growing popularity, the illegal trade of this species has increased significantly. This ecological sanctuary promotes their security in a partnership between Ecoterra Expeditions and the Rodriguez family, who owns the preserve.
