Saffron & Carpet Weaving in Taliouine

Overview

In the heart of the Safran region is the small town of Taliouine, known as the area's Berber capital and famous for its signature saffron spice. It's a wonderful spot to immerse yourself in the local culture! For example, you can visit a saffron factory and learn about the manufacturing process or discover some artist cooperatives.

The region's Berber communities are known worldwide for carpet weaving mills. Artisans (mainly women) make these rugs in cooperatives. Visit one in nearby Tazenakht, where the craftswomen produce elaborate carpets using traditional patterns.

Taliouine pairs nicely with a visit to Taroudant (a fortified town known as "Little Marrakech"), especially when traveling between the desert and the sea (such as between Agadir and Merzouga).
