Snorkeling with Sea Lions in Puerto Madryn, Puerto Madryn

Puerto Madryn is located on Argentina's Atlantic coast, in the north of Patagonia. You might even consider this pleasant coastal town the gateway to Patagonia and all the natural splendor for which it is known. But Puerto Madryn itself is famous for its abundant marine life, particularly the area around Península Valdés, located north of town. This coastal outcropping is a haven for land and sea animals like guanacos, foxes, orcas, penguins, and sea lions. Today's excursion involves actually swimming with sea lions right in their natural habitat.  

The tour leaves by boat from Puerto Pirámides, on Península Valdés, and heads for a nearby bay full of sea lions. Expert guides will offer safety instructions, and then it's time to hop in the water (wetsuits and equipment will be provided). There's really no need to be apprehensive; sea lions are curious by nature and will swim up and offer a friendly hello. Moreover, the guides will be there every step of the way to offer specific instructions about what to do when a sea lion approaches. It's nothing short of an unforgettable experience.
