What you'll do

This half-day excursion begins in the afternoon, depending on the time of year and sunset. You'll meet your guide in Auckland, who will give you a safety briefing and kayaking instruction. Once you're all set to go, you'll hop in the kayak and paddle across Waitemata Harbor and may spot wildlife along the way like Little Blue Penguins and Cooks Petrels. After landing at the wharf o Rangitoto Island, you'll begin an hour-long trek up to the summit of Auckland's youngest, largest, and most iconic volcano.

From the top of Rangitoto, you can enjoy a memorable panoramic view of Auckland and its surroundings. Throughout the trip, your guide will show you the best viewing spots and reveal details about the region to help ground you further in this land mass that formed only 600 years ago in 1450 CE. Soak in the views and then make your way back down the volcano to relax and reenergize at a Kiwi-style barbecue on the water. Once you've had your fill, you'll get back in the kayak and paddle back to Auckland, taking in the city from a new perspective.
