Le Pavillon de La Reine & Spa, Paris
Renovated historic mansion offering curated rooms, leafy gardens, a Michelin-starred restaurant, and a luxurious spa
Overview
Aristocratic residence-turned luxury hotel, the very elegant Pavillon de la Reine is set in a leafy courtyard off Place des Vosges in Paris' historic Marais district. Guests stay in a tranquil pocket of the city surrounded by cafés, fountains, and park space, just a short walk from the Picasso Museum and the Seine's Île Saint-Louis. Rooms range from cozy attic hideaways to expansive suites with original beams, high ceilings, and views of the inner courtyard or garden-lined street. Travelers can dine at the Michelin-starred Anne, unwind by the fireplace in the library lounge, or relax in the spa, complete with a hammam.
Kimkim's Take
- Taking to the cobblestone streets of Le Marais, you're steps from Place des Vosges and close to cultural sites like the Picasso and Carnavalet museums and Victor Hugo's House.
- Dine on Michelin-starred fine French fare at Anne, with a menu crafted by renowned chef Mathieu Pacaud.
- Personality-ridden rooms and suites are individually decorated with a blend of classic French and modern styles.
- Relax with a facial or massage at Spa de la Reine, which also features a hammam, hot tub, and small fitness center.
- Sit out of doors in the private garden terrace or stay indoors by the cozy fireplace with a drink from the honesty bar.
- Enjoy the lush, private garden and terrace, perfect for relaxing with a drink or enjoying breakfast.
- If you want to explore farther afield, nab a complimentary bike, or catch a train from the nearby Chemin Vert Metro Station.
- Standard rooms (Classic and Superior) have less appeal, as they're smaller and less ornately decorated, yet Deluxe Rooms offer noticeably more space.
- Anne has limited hours and is open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday and for brunch on Sundays. There is a daily breakfast buffet (enjoy it on the terrace during the warmer months), however, for an additional charge.
Authenticity
Pavillon de la Reine is a quintessentially French boutique hotel, steeped in history and neoclassical charm. The historic 17th-century mansion named for the queen who resided there (Anne of Austria), you'll find grand interiors expertly designed by Didier Benderli in 2009, merging grand and modern styles, with details like 17th-century Versailles parquet flooring, marble fireplaces, and aristocratic portraits, and gold-leaf paint. Meanwhile, you can tuck into French classics with a twist at the ground-floor Michelin Anne restaurant with a menu crafted by France native, Mathieu Pacaud.
Location
Located in the picturesque Marais district, Le Pavillon de la Reine & Spa sits off the stunning Place des Vosges in a quiet spot, surrounded by chic boutiques and lively cafés. This central location offers easy access to Paris's iconic sites—Notre-Dame Cathedral and the banks of the Seine are just a 20-minute walk away. At the same time, it's within an 8-minute walk to Victor Hugo's House, the Bastille, and the Picasso Museum. Nearby metro stations, including Saint-Paul, Bastille, and Chemin Vert, are helpful options for getting around the city.
Rooms & Bathrooms
The 56 rooms at Le Pavillon are uniquely decorated, with the higher-tier options exquisitely ornate and featuring historic elements like exposed beams, tall ceilings, and antique furnishings. Overall, you can expect plush fabrics, like velvet and mohair, custom-made furniture, and bold colors and modern prints, or traditional toile de Jouy patterns. It all depends. Options range from charming attic Classic Rooms to the luxurious Queen's Suite, complete with Versailles parquet flooring and a decorative period fireplace. Bathrooms are sleek, with some suites offering marble finishes, deep tubs in addition to rainfall showers, and underfloor heating, all complemented by local Marias brand Codage toiletries.
Amenities
The hotel offers unique perks, including the Spa de la Reine, which features a hammam, large hot tub, and a range of massages and facials. Guests can enjoy the small gym equipped with treadmills, bikes, and weights. The honesty bar in the salon invites you to relax with a drink by the fire, while you can dine on fine fare (outside on the terrace during the summer) at Anne, the single-Michelin-starred restaurant. Complimentary bicycles are available to explore the city.
Family-Friendliness
Le Pavillon de la Reine welcomes families with interconnecting rooms (two Superior Rooms) and the more spacious Family Suites that sleep up to five guests. The Petit Pavillon triplex is another great option with multiple levels, though it accommodates up to four guests. Cots are available upon request.
