Lisbet Grönvaldt

Born and raised in Akureyri in North Iceland and grew up exploring all that Iceland has to offer. I love road trips because it changes your travels from being about the destination to being about the whole journey. You never know what you might see along the way.

People travel to Iceland for different reasons and helping them create an experience that reflects their desires is important to me, whether it is for waterfalls, hotsprings or the elves!

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Self-drive trips all over Iceland with a mix of adventure and relaxation, off the beaten track as well as frequently traveled routes, because sometimes places are popular for a good reason. "

How did you get involved in travel?

"Since I was a kid, I have been traveling around Iceland with my family. When I was seventeen, I was fed up with camping every weekend during the summer and decided to move to The Bahamas! After that there was no stopping me, I had found my passion for travel. Since then I have traveled to over 50 countries and lived in another five. Going to a new country and immersing yourself in the culture and customs is life-changing.

During my international travels, my love for my own country grew strong. For me, there is nothing better than to get in a car and drive through this beautiful country to a remote hot spring and just sit there for hours in the peace and quiet. That is what I want travelers to experience in Iceland."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Being able to fly over Holuhraun volcanic eruption in 2015 and then taking a helicopter to Fagradalsfjall volcano in 2021 are experiences I will never forget! "

Lisbet was an absolute pleasure to work with - incredibly knowledgeable, very responsive, and set us up with a spectacular itinerary for our family trip to celebrate our kids’ graduations from high school and college. From the moment we touched down in Iceland, it was clear that this was going to be a special vacation - and it was indeed. Blue Lagoon, geothermal park, super cool hotels off the beaten path, waterfalls galore, amazing food recommendations, lots of hiking (to work off all that incredible food), snorkeling in frigid waters between tectonic plates, kayaking amidst giant icebergs in a glacier lagoon, walking on top of the glacier to access ice caves - and many many more unreal experiences. Iceland blew us away and the trip exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back!
Thank you Lisbet for all your help in making this week absolutely unforgettable.

This was our favorite hotel of the week. Remote location added to the experience. Dinner was unexpectedly incredible. A little smelly from the sulphuric emanating from the geothermal pools - but did not negatively impact our experience (and not the hotel’s fault!).

This was a quaint little hotel conveniently located near the ferry. The rooms were fine and overall the hotel is a little dated and in need of some upgrading. But it was charming and we loved it for that. Breakfast options were somewhat limited.

Thinly staffed. No one present when we arrived - but they thoughtfully left us the key and a note.

Fosshotel Nupar
Kálfafell

This was our least favorite hotel. It is clearly in the middle of a renovation. There was evidence of construction all around, but our rooms had clearly not yet been worked on. The showers had mold, the shower doors didn’t work well and so the whole bathroom got flooded, there were nail holes everywhere. The common areas, however, were lovely - especially the bar. And we again loved the off-the-path location. It was crazy windy on the day we checked out and the night before and all the barriers between rooms were shaking and making noise throughout the night. I would recommend leaving this hotel off the list until they have completed their renovations.

Excellent first stop after landing in Iceland. Helped us work out the kinks from our overnight flights and start off our vacation in style. Loved the face masks and cocktails in the water. Ate lunch at the cafe and everything was really tasty.

Glacier Lagoon Kayaking
Iceland

This was one of our biggest highlights. Being on the water with the icebergs in the glacial waters was a humbling experience. The icebergs are so cool up close, and ever changing. Walking under the bridge over to Diamond Beach and seeing all of the ice on the beach was another highlight. Lots of birds playing around and taking rides on the bergs washing out to sea.

Silfra Snorkeling
Iceland

This was incredibly cool. Everything from pulling on the dry suits, then the wetsuits, then the gloves and boots - the walk over to the water, getting in the water - it was all so much fun and so different from other snorkeling experiences. It is definitely cold! But if you follow instructions on what layers to wear and how to keep your mask sealed, it is really not that bad. The color and clarity of the water is 100% worth it! And the cookies and hot chocolate afterward were a great touch. Our guide, Nico, was so kind, knowledgeable, and funny.

Katla Ice Cave Tour
Iceland

Amazing experience walking to and onto the glacier and seeing the cool streams and caves formed from the ice melting. Also very humbling to see the effects of global warming up close. In the attached photo you can see two separated parts of the glacier that just a couple of weeks ago had been touching. And we were told that where we parked (maybe 1/2 mile away) was covered by ice only 30 years ago.

Quality of Experience

Our guide was not super talkative - but I think that was because we had a couple of older folks that needed a little extra support while walking so he was focused on them.

Everything went well and smoothly. We appreciate Lisbet's timely responses and everything she provided us in preparation for the trip. We got to see a lot with her plans and would not have figured everything out on our own. The only time we deviated from the plans was the last day, when we decided to just explore Rekyavik instead of going to the stops around the airport. Everything was amazing and I would recommend KimKim to anyone trying to see everything they can in a limited amount of time in any of the places you all plan for.

This is a “nothing fancy” hotel. You have your room a small TV area and a plus is an outside jacuzzi. The scenery around you is beautiful and there is not much around in regards to restaurants etc. The breakfast served in the am is great and hits the spot. Would not recommend this hotel for a long stay but is clean and reliable when passing through the area.

We really liked this hotel. Each room has an amazing view of the lava fields. There are two restaurants in the hotel and the buffet is surprisingly not bad. It is not too far from a local town with one/two other places to eat. There are even toys and a kids table for younger kids to keep them entertained.
