Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach, Hofn

You'll find the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon between the towns of Hof and Höfn on the country's famed South Coast. Here you'll have the chance to see one of the unique sights in Iceland: icebergs floating out to sea, resting and shimmering upon a black-sand beach. Once you reach the lagoon, you can climb the nearby hill to better view the entire area. You can join a boat tour of the lagoon as well, offering a much closer view of the massive icebergs.

After enjoying the lagoon, follow the river under the bridge to the ocean, where many smaller icebergs sit on the black sandy shores of "Diamond Beach." The beach gets its name from the phenomenon that occurs when sunlight shimmers through the icebergs—it's quite the sight! You may also see seals, porpoises, or small whales that sometimes hang out in the lagoon or near the shore.
