Marta Trzeciakowska

From a very young age, I have grown up in an international environment since my parents moved to Spain from Poland. This meant that every year we traveled across Europe to visit our family and friends, discovering along the way numerous cultures and magical places: from the biggest cities to the smallest villages. In all of them, I have learned that the only way to get the most out of a destination is to dedicate time to the small details that make the trip unforgettable.

Further on I decided to move across the ocean to the US and stayed for some time in Virginia, where I learned that I was not the only one obsessed with the Spanish culture. All of these experiences made me realize that the world is just waiting to be explored and that the best way to start is to focus on close-by places. This made me travel all across Spain, Portugal, and the north of Africa, with some trips to other parts of Europe, to gather all my knowledge and prepare incredible experiences for other travelers.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"Unique trips and custom-made itineraries based on local experiences and the culture of Spain and Portugal."

How did you get involved in travel?

"Since Spain is such an interesting country, friends and family wanted to visit us and get to know this place that I fell in love with and where I decided to stay forever. Since then I have transferred my skills and knowledge to the world of tourism, to offer all travelers the opportunity to create once in a lifetime memories."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I have still in my mind the first time I entered the Mosque of Cordoba. It was a hot mid-spring day and it was still early so almost no people were waiting in line. When I entered I felt the coolness of the interior and when my eyes got used to the change of lighting I was stunned by the grandiose hall, full of colorful arches that reminded me of a labyrinth. I heard the echoes of people's whispers and felt transported back in time as well as grateful for being able to observe such a masterpiece."

She’s so easy to get in touch with, in with whatever questions we have in mind. She gives out suggestions and recommendations to the best of her abilities. Her instructions were on-point, direct and easy to understand. She has an eye for details, which is extremely important in organizing and planning. From the very first time we set afoot Spain to the very last day, Marta has been there for us, in constant communication with us making sure everything is well taken cared of. If she needs to go vacation or during weekends, she made it a point to endorse us to her reliever. Ensuring someone is looking after us. We are very delighted with her work ethic and her passion with her craft. Our transports, private tours, lodging and reservations were all perfectly booked and organized just as we have requested. We couldn’t thank Marta enough for a memorable, stress-free trip to Spain! This is my second booking with KimKim.com and I couldn’t be more happy and contented with their service and how they take care of their clients. Highly recommended!!! Keep it up Marta and team!!!

First, keep in mind this is an apartment with daily room service. The front desk is only staffed from 9-6 and there are no elevators. Our room was on the third floor.. four flights of stairs. We didn’t mind the stairs except when lugging our suitcases up to the top floor. The aparthotel was very clean, located right on the central square and very spacious. We stayed in a one bedroom with small balcony views. The pictures on Casa Margot’s website are very accurate. Only downside is parking. You can park in a free lot. It is about 1/3 mile away, which is not bad. However, finding the lot is challenging. We got lost and had to drive though the insanely narrow, hilly one way streets, had to back up one time down a street and realized Apple Maps is useless within old towns. There are not street signs, just plaques on walls you can’t read. Anyway, very specific directions with pictures would have been helpful to find the lot. You can drive to the lot and circumnavigate the city, thus avoiding all the internal one way streets. Also, the lot is not paved , consisting of two connected areas on a slope. We found the lot one time, but my husband insisted that couldn’t be right. So off we went again looking for it. A picture of the lot would have helped too.

Get to Know Lisbon with a Local
Lisbon

Keep in mind, my husband and I were running on fumes when we started this tour. Due to flight delays, we arrived a day late in Lisbon. We knew we’d miss an entire night of sleep traveling to Lisbon, but we also missed the night before starting to travel due to the cancellations, rebooking and a 6 am flight to start the journey. The guide brought several maps to show how Lisbon transformed over time. Interesting, but we spent about the first 15 minutes looking at maps. I’d also say I would never pair this guide with anyone making the pilgrimage to Fatima. She often commented negatively about the Catholic Church. Everyone has the right to his/her opinion, but please keep it to yourself ( or make comments about how expensive universities are in the USA). We worked very hard to save for this trip and yes pay for our children’s college education and their future careers engineering and marketing/Spanish . I had to hold my tongue at times .

Fabulous!!! FYI Nuno arrived at our hotel at 8 am, while Greg and I were enjoying a quick breakfast. At 8:30 someone knocked on my door to let me know Nuno was waiting .. I reread my notes which said 9 am pick up. Anyway, we hurried, Nuno hurried and we made on 9:45 ticket time for the tour of Peña palace. Next, we hiked through the neighboring woods about 3 miles, went to Cruz Alta then drove to Cabo da orca for an outstanding picnic lunch. Incredible. We thought we would be getting a tour of corvo Island but we were kind of just dropped off and left to fend for ourselves for the day. We were told not to bother bringing swim stuff but it was so hot and no shade, it would have been great to swim. It is always helpful to have more insight from different members of the group when planning a trip.  In this case, all the designing and planning was done mostly with Sherwood.

In the original planning, the houses selected had a pool however, for 14 people it is necessary to plan well in advance as those properties sell out quickly for summer as there are not that many that can accommodate 14 people as well as have a pool.  As the trip was designed with Sherwood as a road trip, with rural accommodations it is necessary to drive to activities.  In this case, I had presented several options for the accommodations, and the ones that were selected in the end were based on proximity to the main cities (restaurants, shops, etc.) which meant that it was necessary to drive to the mountains to do mountain biking as well as to river for rafting.

Restaurant information was provided with your travel documents which were sent 3 weeks in advance of your trip. In addition, when I sent them,  I specifically recommended restaurant reservations in advance however you never mentioned you needed help with this.

I do hope we can work together in the future again, especially if you wish to visit lesser-known locations. All my best, Marta

We heard about Kimkim on recommendation from a friend who used them for a trip to Portugal and are so happy we used their services on our first trip to Spain!! Usually my husband does all aspects of trip planning, including hotels, rental cars, event/tour tickets, etc. and has to do the requisite amount of research beforehand, in addition to making all of the bookings. Kimkim set us up with Marta, a local expert, and she planned every aspect of our 2 week trip in Southern Spain and made many specific recommendations based on our interests and budget. Everything was planned and coordinated with her online - we never even spoke on the phone because we didn't have to - and she would get back to me with answers, additions, changes and recommendations right away. The communication was top notch every step of the way, even after we were in country....response time was practically immediate and the app with the trip plan is so user friendly and contains all information needed, including time tables, tickets, directions, names, meeting points, etc. We were so lucky in that we have absolutely no issues to report, everything went so smoothly which says so much about the attention to detail Marta and Kimkim delivers! This trip was full of planes, trains, automobiles and miles and miles (kilometers and kilometers!) of walking all over Southern Spain. Highlights included our private tour of the Alhambra and Generalife Gardens with guide, Marta Sanchez. Her English was excellent and her passion for and knowledge of the history of Spain, Granada and the Alhambra were so extensive and contagious. Her expertise definitely made this not-to-miss attraction come to life for us and set us up with historical context right at the beginning of our trip, which was perfect. We climbed the Caminito del Rey which reminded us so much of the Grand Canyon and was beautiful - but HOT. Please be warned that it is much longer than you think because you have to walk to the meeting point from the bus and walk from the end back to the bus which adds at least a few kilometers onto the climb and on a hot, sunny day wearing the required helmet - it is HOT. Bring lots of water. Another highlight was the hotel we stayed in while in Sevilla, Las Casas de la Juderia. It is located in the Old Jewish Quarter and consists of multiple historical homes and buildings that are interconnected by a maze of gardens, patios, passageways and courtyards. All the rooms were unique and historical but modernized and comfortable. The rooftop pool was beautiful and the architecture in the old part of town was gorgeous and steeped in history. We had a private tour of Sevilla with Jose, which gave us the ability to pick and choose areas we wanted to return to but included a detailed tour of the Alcazar. He brought us to a wonderful local restaurant at the end of the tour, and we particularly enjoyed the conversations we had with him during our tour and the food and conversations with others at the restaurant. We rested in the resort town of Marbella, spending a day lounging ocean/poolside, which was much needed with the heat and pace of our trip! Highlights there also included a day trip to Malaga, another beautiful city - our daughter is an artist so we visited the Picasso Museum there which was fantastic - don't miss the architectural finds located in the basement! Madrid was lovely - the private tour we took with Antonio took us by many of the important neighborhoods, buildings, markets and plazas and gave us the much needed knowledge of Madrid to be able to pick and choose the places we wanted to return to and explore in more detail. Again, being interested in art - specifically Modern Art - our daughter visited the Reina Sophia and had a fantastic day there. The last highlight was our day trip to Toledo. Again, our private tour guide Daniel Cano perfectly bookended our trip with his knowledge, passion and love of Toledo and its' incredible history (thank you for telling us he origin of the saying "Holy Toledo"!). From the Old Jewish Quarter to the Toledo Cathedral - the attractions we visited had amazing artworks by El Greco and Carvaggio among others - but also modern art as well. The architecture and history of Spain and specifically the "City of Three Cultures" that guide Daniel Cano shared were easily recognizable to us from the historical context that Marta Sanchez, our guide at the Alhambra, provided at the very beginning of the trip. And again, he. made a wonderful recommendation for a restaurant which was a terrific and restful way to end the day.

The time we saved on trip planning, the insider knowledge of the local experts at Kimkim and the support before, during and after the trip made this vacation so enjoyable and smooth for us. We definitely recommend Kimkim and specifically Marta - and will definitely use them for trip planning in the future.

On our way to the Algarve, a wonderful lunch and wine tasting was planned for us outdoors at a farm/vineyard. During 3 days in our timeshare in Vilamoura we did an all day tour around the Algarve to the 2 highest pints of the regions for amazing views and lessons on cork farming and manufacturing and a great lunch at a local venue. We self drove back to Lisbon for 3 more days doing our own thing and a final tour to the Peña Palace and town of Sintra. Another amazing tour! We really felt we got the best of every region we visited, met many wonderful guides, drivers and the locals who were always glad to have us enjoying their amazing country! Thank you again Kimkim for another amazing vacation plan. Looking forward to our next one in Ireland in the fall!

Our trip to Northern Spain arranged with Marta T of Espiritu Travel and Kim Kim was a truly wonderful experience and all of us in our group of 6 were very happy with the itinerary and the excellent attention and service we received from Marta before and during our trip. Marta was always so attentive and prompt in answering any questions and concerns we had and the suggestions she made for our itinerary introduced us to many of the highlights of our trip ie the Cares Mountain Route, the Picos de Europa Mountains, the hike from Orio to Zumaia and the National Parks. We were so fortunate she chose Diego as our driver and guide for the majority of our trip! We met him in San Sebastian and all of us immediately felt so comfortable and safe with him right from the start. Diego is amazing! He is professional, very knowledgeable, patient, responsible and just a great person to be around. He was so attentive to the needs of our group! We all felt so safe with him driving on those winding mountain roads and on our hikes in lesser known areas as he accompanied us and made sure we were all going to make it to the end. We can’t recommend him enough! Our guides for the city tours, Noelia in Oviedo and Joachim in Santiago de Compostella were both excellent. They had such a great knowledge of the history of their respective cities and the area and their enthusiasm was infectious!
The hotels selected were all excellently located for touring the cities where we stayed and the included breakfasts were very good. We were a group of 2 couples and two singles. There was a difference in the size and quality of the rooms for the couples in the Posado Rural El Corcal, Hotel Soho Boutique in Oviedo and in Eurostars Araguaney in Santiago de Compostella. It was not a huge issue but should be addressed for future groups. There was also an issue with our reservation in Santiago de Compostella due to a computer glitch but a quick text to Marta resulted in her immediately addressing the problem with the hotel. It resulted in the two singles having to share a room for the first night of our three night reservation but we were well compensated with a delicious complimentary meal at the Hotel for the inconvenience this caused us. The one hike, the Oak Path in Armanon Park is one we suggest be used with caution and that it be rated as medium/difficult due to the conditions of the trail, the elevation and the difficulty finding the trail head. The rest of our hikes were well selected and the scenery was breathtaking on many of them.
In summary we are very happy with our choice of Kim Kim and highly recommend Marta T, the Kim Kim team, and the people she chose to be with us on our trip.

We loved the day trip to Sintra, Estoril and Cascais as well - another great guide and Nortada restaurant for lunch was a great recommendation. Evora was lovely but I would not necessarily recommend the Pousada de Evora, Convento dos Loios hotel. The rooms were generally sparse and they had very limited staff. However, Telma (our guide for two days) was outstanding and we loved the Olive Oil Estate tour and lunch - definitely a high point. Quinta Nova Winery House was in a spectacular location - but the trip up and down the mountain was nerve racking for those with fear of heights! Our dinner at their restaurant was delicious and the boat trip down the Douro River was wonderful. Would not recommended the picnic lunch at Quinda da Roeda Winery and it was a LONG, uphill walk from the dock (not 10 minutes - more like 30 minutes). Torel Palace in Porto was another high point - beautiful rooms and excellent service in a great location. The trip to Sao Miguel went as planned. However, we did not need the two rental cars. The hotel was only 10 minutes from the airport, so a taxi would have worked fine and we didn't use them the rest of the trip (I think we would have needed them if we stayed in the original hotel at the botanical gardens and probably should have rethought them after we moved to the waterfront). The Hotel Marina Atlantico was nothing fancy but nice with a great view and central location. We loved the Sunset Boat ride, the whale watching trip, and the Food and Wine Walk was wonderful. Natacha for Sete Ciudades and Furnas could not have been better - please recommend her for all of your clients; they will not be disappointed! All in all, we had a fantastic trip and were so happy with Marta and the Kimkim team as always. Thank you again! Karen Friedrich and Team!

Lovely hotel with beautiful rooms and amazing views. The cost of those views comes from the trip up the mountain on a narrow, switch back road with no rails - scary up and down trip every day for anyone afraid of heights. There are also no other services so you will need to eat and drink onsite. Breakfast was not served until 8:30AM, and there were no staff onsite earlier if you wanted a coffee or tea. I found that lacking for a Relais and Chateau property. Dinner was outstanding.

The improvements - The hotel at Las Ramblas and Ronda was a let down in comparison. I think we would have appreciated more preparation in what to expect. Ronda staff were very rude- maybe they really dislike Americans? And Las Ramblas…it felt like a budget motel. Clean, but lacking in amenities or style. Perhaps you picked it for the convenient location- I think I would have been fine if our documents said that.

That being said, there was overwhelmingly more good than not so good. Pacing was great, places visited were awesome and the detailed itinerary gave enough info for me to plug in a few items from my own research. It was an amazing experience and we appreciate all that you did to help create it.

It is just enough off the Main Street to be quiet yet still very convenient

So clean!! Well designed room. Our only complaint- we had to sign into the Wi-Fi every single time, and sometimes even multiple times during a session.
Hotel H10 Casa de la Plata

I can’t say enough good about this place. We loved everything and every one. The front desk person even made a restaurant recommendation “off the list” which I know is not common- and it was outstanding! Also, the room was incredibly well designed- lighting furniture placement, amenities and bathroom… every detail was intelligently thought out and we appreciated it. On top of this they delivered iced Cava and a desert tray?! We felt like royalty for a day.

Authenticity & Character
So much character. And, we appreciated the playful art

Catalonia Ronda
Ronda

Not the best experience. The parking was ridiculously complicated, the staff never seemed to have what we needed (and didn’t care) and the restaurant staff was beyond insulting- claiming they had no way to seat us until 10 pm… it was 7 pm and the place was completely empty. A senior staff took pity on us and sat us (with no apology or explanation ) and we proceeded to order and eat… and the restaurant never got more than 30% full during the entire meal. I’ve never been so insulted in my entire life. The room was as dark as a cave. Very unpleasant. We do not recommend.

A serviceable place that is clean but feels like a budget motel. Zero amenities but a vending machine on every floor. Active jackhammering just below our room when we checked in. Management did try to help out but 🤷‍♀️ what can you do?

Authenticity & Character
Budget is budget, I guess.
Location
Might be great for the young interested in the action on Las Ramblas. Not so much for us.
Staff
They were mostly occupied with watching to 12 surveillance screens so… 🤷‍♀️ they were nice.
Cleanliness & Comfort
I disliked the noise- both construction noise and general location noise, but I don’t think it’s bad. Just not my preference.

Great breakfast and very nice bar.

Our guide for the 2 tours we did in Evora, Telma was super. Very knowledgeable and gave us a wide variety of experiences, including visit to Cork Farm, Olive Oil tasting and lunch with the owner of Blinded by Love, wine tasting and visit to her family’s watermelon and melon farm.
Staying at the 15th Convent was unique, but the coffee was horrendous and breakfast was just average.

We enjoyed our cruise of the Douro river with Paulo and Barb.
The visit to Croft for a Port tasting was average. The picnic lunch, although with an abundance of food, was below average in quality.
We had a delicious dinner at Quinto Nova and enjoyed their pool. We were disappointed that coffee was not available early in the morning prior to excursions.

Our hotel in Porto was wonderful. Gift of champagne and fruit on arrival. Breakfast was excellent with numerous options and eggs to order. Our guide Michael was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the history and took us to a jam tasting in addition to our walking tour of the town. We enjoyed our antique car tour down by the river at the tour’s end.

Azores
Hotel Marina Atlantico Ponta Delgado
Very good location, had ocean view, accommodating staff, enjoyed the bar area. Rooms were average, they could use some refreshing, especially the availability of outlets that can accommodate chargers.
Our sunset cruise with Louis and Marco was wonderful. We saw not only a beautiful sunset but a large group of dolphins. Our host did supply wine, although we also brought our own.
The whale watch we did through Terra Azulejo was a highlight. We saw dolphins, numerous, and a sperm whale who we actually saw do a dive.
Our food and wine tour with the Hungry Whale was fabulous. The stop at the restaurant Tasca us a must when in Ponto Delgada.
We did 2 days of tours with Natacha covering the island from end to end. She thoughtfully set up lunches for us at places that had original Portuguese food. She was also very knowledgeable and able to flex our tour to meet our requests. She did a wonderful job.

All in all our trip was a wonderful experience. The people in Portugal and Azores were open and welcoming.
Thanks to Marta for doing such a wonderful job!

Pablo transported us back in time with his vast knowledge of Seville’s past. And Geza pointed out all the things in the Royal Palace we would have missed without him! This trip truly exceeded all of our expectations. We are so thankful for all the effort that went into planning such a fantastic trip for our family. We look forward to picking out another destination and letting KimKim handle the rest!

It was a truly spectacular culinary experience. Marta is remarkable! Thank you.

Hotel Rector
Salamanca

This is a very small, boutique hotel is a perfect location related to the historic heart of Salamanca. The service was personalized and exceptional. The rooms were beautiful and well-appointed. We were greeted with champaign and some special treat every night. This is one of the best hotels we have experienced anywhere we have travelled. We cannot recommend it too highly.

Authenticity & Character

Perfectly located right next to the Cathedral in the heart of the old city. Nothing fancy, but very pleasant.

Hotel San Antonio El Real
Segovia

We initially thought that the hotel was badly placed, outside the walls of the old city. It turned out to be a perfect location to follow the Roman aqueduct into town. For those with cars, it actually has a parking lot, which you will not find in the city center.

Day Excursion to Douro Valley, Wine Tasting & River Cruise
Porto

This was the highpoint of our two weeks in Iberia. Coming from California wine country, BUT already hooked on Duoro red wines, we were not prepared for the steep hillsides and rugged beauty of the river. Second, the specific driver, Rui, was remarkable: Personable, knowledgeable, and responsive. He specifically approved of the choice of Quintos de S. Tiago in Mesâo Frio, which on the outside is a dump that no-one would pull off and visit on their own--burned out buildings, junky driveway, humblest of houses. But, upon entering the house through an open-hearth kitchen, we knew we were in for something special. The food, the wine, the atmosphere, and the host made this the Quinta an unforgettable experience. Keep using Rui and this particular Quinta.

It rained all day, and we didn't care. Even the river cruise was perfect.

Guided Visit of Salamanca
Spain

Our guide met us in a timely manner at the hotel and walked us through the University and Cathedral and associated areas. She was delightful, but overly detailed about things that interested her and not necessarily sensitive to whether or not it interested us. She was particularly absorbed with esoteric marginalia about the university. Eventually, after the tour was 30 minutes longer than scheduled, we (gently, I hope) asked her if we could have the opportunity to explore on our own.

Didn't like: Driver knew very little about stops along the way.
Guided Visit of Ávila
Spain

With certificates in tourism and theology, our guide provided the perfect introduction to Avila and its two saints--Teresa and Juan de la Cruz. He quickly picked up our interest in them and shaped the tour and his message to our interests. For instance, at the chapel built in the room where Teresa probably was born, he emphasized the holiness of the space, not the art of the chapel, and he asked if we wanted some time just to sit in prayer and contemplation; we did. He also recommended the monastery where Teresa had trained and lived, and we found it to be a deeply moving experience. I was in the museum business for 40 years, and I deeply appreciated the simple presentations, the unprotected access to the "things," and the freedom to explore on our own time. Our guide reflected that receptive and trusting attitude and helped us discover meaning and treasures beyond the formal tour.

The tour guide provided the perfect introduction and shaped it to our obvious interests as we went. He was responsive and suggestive, with great integrity.

Privately Guided Visit of Segovia
Spain

This was the most traditional tour of the trip. The handed us ear plugs, spoke into a microphone, and largely led with her back to us. She would have fit as a tour guide in San Francisco. At the same time, she provided a marvelous orientation to the city, not too detailed, but with enough off the wall items--like the first book published in Spanish--to make it fascinating. A special commendation: When she informed us that the Cathedral was closed New Year's Eve (the day of our tour) and New Year's Day, we noted that January 1st was a Sunday, she called a friend to check on service times, which we attended the next day. That is the kind of personal responsiveness you would seldom receive on a tour in the United States. She also helped us plan our walking for the next day. We are grateful for her tour and assistance.

Quality of Experience
There is so very, very much packed into this small city.
