Overall great trip to Norway! Tom was really great to work with, responsive and helpful with all of my questions and changes regarding the planning process. Our trip went smoothly and we really enjoyed our time. There were a few things that were slightly underwhelming that I would maybe change or want others to be aware of.

1. The Wangen Apartments in Aurland had a LOT of construction. They were paving some areas and it smelt of hot asphalt when we pulled up to the hotel so it was very off putting right from the start. I was not made aware that there was any construction going on. There was no lobby since everything was under construction. The view from the room was phenomenal, but the rooms were tiny! It would be ok for 2 people but for a family of 4 you absolutely need more space. The bedroom was extremely small no room to even walk around the bed. The mattress pads (not even a normal mattress) would slip off the bed and you could not open/close the bedroom door it was so small. The black out shades in the bedroom had huge spaces around the edges and light shown right into your eyes. There was no air or AC and it felt very hot and stuffy at times. Living rooms had no blackout shades so children sleeping on the pull out couch had a very hard time falling asleep at night. No closet or room for any luggage. Bedding felt cheap and scratchy. Overall this hotel was a disappointment and felt more budget level. I might stay here again because the view was so good, but I would wait until construction is done and I would get a much bigger room!

2. While the lunch at Mt. Ulriken was nice, I didn’t think it was a very good child friendly space, and should not be recommended for small children. It’s a very slow 3course meal and they were very slow between courses. I would only recommend this for adults. We also went to Floyen which was not recommended by Tom, but should have been as it was much better for kids since there are fantastic parks and lots to do!

Grand Hotel Oslo

Good location but very old, slightly odd hotel. Lots of stairs especially if you stay on floors 4/5. It was lard to navigate these floors with small kids and a stroller. Rooms were kid of old, and outdated, nothing special. Decent breakfast buffet but got pretty crowded. Seemed like mostly business traveler type.

Kind of central location

Wangen Apartments by Fjord Resort
Aurland

Amazing views, but was still under construction and I was not aware. No lobby because of the construction. Very small apartment and even smaller bedrooms, just a box and a bed, and can barely get around the bed. Bed was uncomfortable with not even a real mattress. The bed pads would slide around and slip off preventing the door from opening or closing. The bed linens were cheap and scratchy. Black out shades in bedroom did nothing and let too much light in. There were no black out shades in the living room so it makes it very hard to sleep on the pull out couch. Apartment probably would have been better for only 2 people, but I would not recommend 4 (even 2 adults 2 kids was too cramped). No closet, no room for luggage, way too small! Great location and views though!

Hi Coral.

First of all, very happy to hear that the overall stay was great and that you have nice memories from the stay here.

I have talked to Wangen Apartment about the construction as we hadnt heard anything about it either, and it was a temporary construction where they were paving new asphalt that happened during your stay there so that was very unfortunate. Not sure what happened with the recpeption because it should have remained opened at their usual opening hours (from 9am to 8-10pm).
And sorry you were a bit disappointed with the room size and general quality. You had a 1 bedroom apartment which should be a good fit for families with smaller children, but the size and details like blackout curtains are well noted for future references.

I recommended Mt.Ulriken more for the food experience but based on your feedback we will re-consider this as a family option.

Katie was wonderful in helping us plan a trip that fit our needs and continued to “be at our side” during the trip as well., She was professional, accessible and passionate about getting everything perfect- from the itinerary, to the hotels and even fabulous restaurant suggestions. All our connections from air to sea to rail went off without a glitch. I would not hesitate to use Kim Kim again to book our next trip!

Katie planned the perfect trip that balanced the needs of our kids with our wishlist of things to see. Everything was seamless on the trip and I'm so glad I didn't have to spend my energy managing logistics and could enjoy our time as a family instead. When our hotel forgot to deliver a crib, Katie had it resolved right away while we unpacked. I would absolutely work with KimKim again!

Coming here at this time of year as you did is a smart move, as you mentioned you will get some of the sceneries all to yourself and that is quite unique. And youre right that weather isnt always playing along here (but that can happen anytime of year) but gald you were enjoying the views. You are certainly most welcome to come back here!

A 5 star scale is not sufficient to rate my experience planning a trip to Norway with Mathia! I sought an off-the-beaten path, stunning, relaxing, reinvigorating adventure with my teenage son. After being told by Norwegians and American friends who had traveled to the quieter Northern regions that our desire to explore up there in a relatively short trip was ambitious and that the weather would be risky, But Mathia inspired me to trust his love for the region and orchestrated an itinerary that captured exactly what we were seeking...and more! Of course it's impossible to see everything that this otherworldly country has to offer, but I know we used every day well, without having to skim through a landscape that must not be rushed. When I made a mistake in booking a flight, Mathia heroically and selflessly adjusted the plan at the 11.9th hour and we didn't miss a beat. I have ZERO regrets about how we spent our time. We felt well taken care of by innkeepers and adventure guides known to Mathia. We tasted the local flavors. We fell into the rhythms of the midnight sun. I will forever be grateful for Mathia for making this dream trip possible and would trust him again in a heartbeat!

Super friendly staff and best breakfast in history! Location was in a beautiful neighborhood and central to the other activities we were doing (harbor, fjord cruise, walking tour, museums). The train station was close by and the local transportation stops were also plentiful there. They were lots of nice places to eat nearby too.

Authenticity & Character
Older building/neighborhood, real food breakfast
Location
Central to other activities, beautiful architecture, good places to eat, close to the train station, tram and bus stops nearby, giving us access to other areas we wanted to visit

This place is amazing. I wish we could’ve stayed longer. Unfortunately the weather did not allow us to see the aurora borealis, however, we were still happy that we came to stay here. Just watching the water, mountains, and snow falling through the big glass window was incredible in itself. I would love to come here again and stay a few days as a retreat. The design of the cabin was so well thought out. It was very aesthetically pleasing, but also very functional.

Authenticity & Character
The unique design of the place made it very special. I’ve never stayed anywhere like this.
Location
While the location isn’t central, it is perfect for getting away from the city light pollution to provide the best chance of seeing the northern lights. Additionally, although it is further out, it was very easy to access. There is a bus that goes directly to it. We were also able to take a taxi there from the airport. The drive itself has stunning views of the water and mountains. The Sami reindeer camp is also close by.
Staff
The staff were great here. They helped us figuring out things such as the bus, how to find things on our phones! They also helped us get our luggage from the cabin to the bus stop when we left, which was especially helpful since my boots had lost some of their waterproofing.
Cleanliness & Comfort
The bathroom was amazing and had a heated floor. The whole place was squeaky clean.

The hotel was well designed, perfectly located, had a wonderfully helpful staff, an excellent breakfast, including a real barista, (who was extremely nice and she made great lattes!), and an amazing view of the harbor from our room and the dining area.

Authenticity & Character
This hotel had more modern, Scandinavian design, and we really enjoyed it. The location was right on the harbor and within walking distance of quaint historic buildings, which housed museums, restaurants, cafés, and shops.

This was such a great place too stay prior to catching our flight out of Oslo. The hotel was so nice that we wish we could stay a bit longer. It was very beautifully designed, especially in the dining room. The room was the largest we stayed in during our trip, with comfortable beds, a couch, and a soaking tub in the bathroom. The breakfast was excellent as well.

Authenticity & Character
While the construction was not historic or anything, the interior design was on point.
Location
The location was amazing for its proximity to the airport. We stayed there on our last night to make it easier to catch our plane. This would also be a great place to rest after a late arrival.
