Best of Seydisfjordur

Top itineraries and travel advice in and around Seydisfjordur
Mountain-backed Seyðisfjörður is the prettiest town in east Iceland and an excellent base for exploring the region’s picturesque fjords. Dotting the peaceful streets are colorfully painted wooden houses, some of which have been transformed into galleries and workshops where local and international artists and artisans sell their works. Seyðisfjörður is liveliest in mid-July, when you can catch special exhibitions, performances and concerts at the LungA Art Festival.

Photogenic landscapes are a short hop from town. You can hike to waterfalls that gush into the fjord or make the ascent to Vestdalsvatn, a small lake (often frozen) set among mountain scenery. You can also climb to viewpoints that offer panoramic views over the fjord.
