A portion of every trip booked through kimkim supports the removal of carbon from the atmosphere, sustainable aviation fuel, and impactful projects from our local specialists. When you plan your trip with us, you'll reduce your footprint and join the long-term fight against the effects of climate change.

What is the Kimkim Climate Initiative?

At kimkim, we're passionate about the positive social and economic impacts that travel generates in our destinations—but we also recognize that travel contributes to climate change.

Climate change poses a risk to our shared environment and communities around the world. We believe the travel industry must take a leadership role in this challenge, and we've elected to do so by helping to support the advancement of carbon removal technology. Removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it permanently will be vital to realize the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celcius. We are also investing in sustainable aviation fuel to help reduce the impact of travel on the climate.

Since 2022, we've supported carbon removal in partnership with kimkim's travelers, local specialists, and Tomorrow's Air, a collective of travelers who are working together to clean up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and permanently store it. In 2023, we expanded our partnership with Tomorrow's Air to include sustainable aviation fuel. We also support impactful climate initiatives sourced from our local specialists around the world.

As with our prior Climate Neutrality Initiative, we hope to inspire other businesses—and travelers around the world—to confront the challenge presented by climate change.

How It Works

  • Plan a trip to any kimkim destination
  • Your per-traveler contribution is automatically added to the cost of your trip
  • Kimkim and your local specialist match your contribution
  • The shared cost removes and permanently stores 8.4 kgs of carbon from the atmosphere and reduces 7 kgs of emissions with sustainable aviation fuel through Tomorrow's Air

Partnering for Impact

The per-traveler contribution of $20.00 is split between you, kimkim, and your local specialist. Our initiative is collaborative, and all our stakeholders can take pride in doing their part.

When you book a trip, your $10.00 contribution will be automatically added to the trip price, multiplied by the number of travelers in your group. Kimkim and your local specialist then match each traveler's contribution with another $10.00. Each individual contribution is small—but cumulatively, they have a large and lasting impact.

Supporting Local Specialist Initiatives

In addition to our support for carbon removal and sustainable aviation fuel, kimkim invests 20% of our climate fund into an impactful sustainability initiative from one of our local specialists each year. Our local partners submit proposals for these funds, which are awarded through a competitive grant process. In 2022, Ecuador Galapagos Travels was awarded the inaugural Specialist Climate Initiative Grant for a project to build a greenhouse to reforest an area of southern Ecuador that was devastated by a wildfire in 2019, as well as a separate reforestation effort in the Galapagos Islands.
