Actually, Colombia was not my main destination, it was more of an add-on for my trip to Brazil. However, once I stepped into this fantastic realm, I am blown away and even extended my holiday. I love everything about Colombia, the food, the view, and the people, and I am already planning to come back. Wendy, my local specialist, is extremely helpful and quick to respond to my messages. The itinerary she arranged for me is amazing, and I had great fun every day. The local guides are also the highlights, they are all really passionate and informative. I have to say my favorite place in Colombia has to be Cartagena, the colorful buildings and Caribbean coasts are breathtaking and memorable. To be honest, every place I went to is incredible, and each has its unique views and cultures. I can't believe that my main impression of Colombia is mainly Encanto and El Dorado before, but I know I have a whole new understanding of Colombia, thanks to Wendy and all the local guides.

We had an incredible family vacation in Columbia with our guides Alba (Medellin) and Santiago (Bogota). Felipe was incredibly helpful in arranging an itinerary and trip plan based on our specific needs. Memorable experiences in Medellin were a coffee farm tour, and visiting Guatape and climbing El Penol. In Bogota we loved the Salt Cathdral at Zipaquira and the Guatavita Lake tour, Gold Museum, Monserrate, and chocolate experience. The transporation and dining arrangements were seamless. I highly recommend using this service if you don't have extensive knowledge about your destination -- it is money well spent.

The trip plan David developed for us involved travelling through three diferent parts of the country, Tayrona National Park, the Guajira and the Orinoco, and gave us an idea of Colombia's amazing cultural diversity and natural beauty, just as we had hoped. We have both fallen in love with the country and are very much wanting to go back. It's difficult to say what were the highlights of the trip, as the thing we appreciated most was the possibility to travel, stay and eat with local people, and getting an insight, even if only for a few days, into their way of life. Tayrona was the most familiar in feel as we have travelled in rainforests and stayed in eco-lodges before so it was a good place to begin. You feel as if you are in the clouds slightly above the treeline, and we counted a dozen different bird species just from our bedroom window. We could have gone into the nature reserve nearby but instead walked by ourselves along the road to the coast to orient ouselves. The reward was a blissful view of the Caribbean at Los Cocos in unspoiled natural glory - the forst reaching into the sand, a couple of local families playing football, a dog running freely in the sunset. At Los Naranjos nearby there is a botanical garden with the most beautiful trees.

The food and cocktails at Tayrona kept up the holiday feel but nothing could have prepared us for what happened next, which was when the real adventure began. We were driven to Riohacha which has an amazing frontier city feel - which is indeed the case, as after this comes the desert. Before dawn the next day we were picked up from the hotel by Paola, the leader of the local company who took care of us for the next few days, by Leiner, our guide, and by Oder, the driver, who himself is Wayuu. We could not have felt more welcome and also in safer hands. This is important as it has to be stressed that this is not country in which you can casually venture on your own. It is a place where it is necessary to respect the local people who live here. It is also difficult country, beautiful but inhospitable, and it needs intimate knowledge to get around. Oder the driver was also vital as it is very rough territory for even a 4-wheel drive. He was brilliant, keeping us steady whatever the ground, and taking time so we never felt remotely in danger. Leiner was a terrific guide: knowlegeable, friendly, fluent in English and possessing fantastic people skills. We enjoyed stunning views of windswept landscapes with sparse vegetation but amazing birdlife including Red Cardinals, eagles, vultures and hawks. The sea is everywhere. Attending a local sea turtle conservation project and learning about the way solar technology is used to produce drinking water in this parched land was an inspiring example of grassroot -level community renewal: small scale, local and democratic.
After a quick stopover in Bogota we prepared for a flight to Puerto Carreno, and transferred to 4x4 to reach the Orinoco river. The first sight of the river (the second biggest in the world) was truly unforgettable. Under the guidance of Rosevelt our extremely practical and competent guide, and two lovely travel companions, we spend the next few days travelling down the Orinoco by boat, staying at Tuparro biosphere reserve, Sarrapia, and El Remanso in the Mavecure. There is something unusually lovely about the Orinoco river: the abundance of flora and fauna, the geology with its striking rock formations, and the rapids described by Alexander von Humboldt as the eighth wonder of the world. But the most important thing for us was understanding the river as the lifeblood of so many different communities; connecting different places, providing water and food, as well as identity and belonging. While we felt our lack of Spanish imposed limitations on the way we interacted with people we nevertheless learned so much about the ways in which indigenous communities in the region are connecting traditional ecological knowledge to solutions to the contemporary environmental crisis while protecting their cultural heritage. And, as we discovered while watching the World Cup finals in El Remanso, the language of football really is universal. While tourism can be a highly ambiguous phenomenon (something of which people locally are very much aware), you feel that communities here are managing to get the balance right, and have created infrastructure that allows people to see the astonishing natural abundance of the region, and learn about its cultural diversity, without doing damages or changing its character. Let's hope it stays this way.

What a lovely spot! The view from the central terrace opens out over the valley, the river and the mountains in the distance and is almost impossibly beautiful. We particularly appreciated the emphasis on sustainability. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere relaxed. Special compliments to the kitchen staff for the very tasty food.

Trip to Cabo de La Vela & Punta Gallinas 3 days - 2 nights

This was an astonishing and beautiful experience, made possible by Leiner our amazing guide and Oder who drove us so safely. At the heart of it is an encounter with the Waiyuu people. The natural landscapes are incredible, topped only by seeing the turtle project explained at the Punta Gallinas community centre. We watched pelicans at sunset but we most enjoyed learning from our guides.

Our guide and crew members were very friendly. But they spoke limited or no English which made it difficult to communicate. The other problem was that the engine quit working. We had to turn around to go back to the port. After randomly coming across Kim Kim, we decided to take a family trip to Cartagena Colombia with our children ages to six and 12. Margoth and her team did an incredible job of planning so many amazing wonderful immersive experiences with wonderful guides and just really knocked it out of the park. When we arrived at our hotel, we were greeted with delicious specialty nonalcoholic drinks, and when we got to our room, there were special toucan gifts for our kids (who are obsessed with Encanto), local chocolates that were gilded for my daughters, golden birthday, and a beautiful coffee table book of Columbia. Some of our favorite memories were a mangrove tour with a local fisherman, a cooking class with a local chef at an adorable French Colombian bistro, a bird, sanctuary tour, and spending time at our beautiful hotel. Each of my kids had an amazing time, and my husband and I even had a chance to do a literary tour with a guide who knew Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a author we studied in college. We loved seeing local artisans and bought some local oil paintings and watercolor paintings that now hang on our walls overall, it was a trip of a lifetime!

This was our first post pandemic holiday and we decided to use an international travel agent to personalize the itinerary. We planned a two week trip to Colombia in November 2022. After some research we chose Kim Kim based on their capabilities and references. Kim Kim put us in touch with a local specialist, Wendy, in Colombia and working with them we established a detailed itinerary for internal travel and visits. The whole project was wonderfully organized with private tours using local guides managed in Colombia via "The Colombian Trip", including, Bogota, Medellin,The Coffee Triangle, Cartagena and the Amazon. From the start to the finish, Margoth, Felipe, and Juanita were nothing short of outstanding. As Margoth planned our trip, she took in our interests, timelines, budgets, and various requests, planning a perfect trip for what we wanted. Wherever we went, we had drivers to chauffer us safely from one activity to the next, along with talented and knowledgeable guides. The true benefit of having Margoth on our side was her team's flexibility and attentiveness while we were in Colombia. I was sick for most of the trip and needed to change our plans to allow me to rest and recover, and she swiftly rearranged our plans to allow me to do so, sending a care package with pedialytes, and checking in to make sure that things were going according to plan. We felt extremely well taken care of and had a terrific time, even with my illness. I would recommend Kimkim to absolutely anyone and will definitely be using them again in the future.

Our Amazonas guide, Claudio Gutierrez, was the absolute best guide. He showed us amazing wildlife, introduced us to fascinating people and was funny, knowledgeable, and a true pleasure to hang out with. He totally understood our travel vibe and added extra walks and activities beyond the itinerary. His passion for the Amazonas was so infectious we simply wanted to stay and explore more with him. We would go back just to visit Claudio as we count him now as a friend.

Our trip to Colombia was incredible!!! Our itinerary included Medellin, Pereira and Cartagena. Right from the get go Margarita was attentive, available to answer my questions quickly and listened carefully to the needs I communicated for our trip. She crafted an amazing itinerary for my son (6 years old) and I , which ended up including all of the highlights I asked for plus some extra kid-friendly activities she took initiative to recommend (Explora Park in Medellin and Coconut Beard Pirate Game in Cartagena). My son has Autism and this was our first adventure abroad together so I wanted to ensure we had a solid plan and support while traveling. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience or supportive team! Not only was the planning seamless (KimKim software is incredibly user friendly and centralizes every detail you need), but while we were traveling we could communicate directly with Margarita and our local guides via WhatsApp with any questions and concerns. This was a nice bonus for me traveling solo with my son, knowing I had others to depend on. I requested smaller boutique style hotels with more of a local feel for accommodation. Loved each one (Hotel Quinta Ladera, Hotel Sazagua, Hotel Casa Don Luis by Faranda). The pace of our trip was perfect, with a good balance of excursions and downtime, flights that were at reasonable hours (with seats in the front of the plane!), safe drivers, and dependable flexible guides. We had Manuela in Medellin, Guillermo in Pereira and Carlos in Cartagena, all of whom were incredible with my son always playful, attentive and patient. The level of attentiveness of this tour company is above and beyond. They check in with you, they are available when you need something and take the time to add personal touches. Like nothing I’ve ever experienced traveling in the past. Definitely amazing value and service for the price point. Will definitely use Kim Kim in the future and highly recommend it - so grateful!

This is my 4th time using KimKim and second time with the wonderful team in Colombia! Margoth, Felipe and their team, once again, made sure I had a remarkable time as a solo traveler in this beautiful country. I always say I shouldn’t have gone with Colombia for my first trip out of the country, because it’s going to be tough to live up to it!
This second time around was no different! I visited Cartagena, Medellin and Santa Marta this time. It was the best birthday of my life! I plan to keep visiting each year for my birthday, and I feel it’s only going to keep getting better!
If you haven’t made Colombia a stop on your list, you absolutely must!

THANK YOU TO MICHAEL GOLD who was especially attentive to me and my trip mate as we planned our trip to Colombia. He booked a fabulous week for us.

While in Medellin: The hotel, the experiences, and the guides were perfect in every way. The hotel was basic but got the job done. BH El Poblado: friendly staff, great beds, hot water, terrific breakfast and views.
A BIG SHOUTOUT TO OUR GUIDE FROYLAN GARCES and DRIVER MARTIN CHALARCA as they were both quite knowledgeable in all areas of history, current events and where to get a great cup of coffee. They focused on our safety and comfort and really represented the heart and soul of Medellin.

While in Cartagena: The first hotel we stayed in was not a place that should be booked for future guests. Upon letting Michael Gold know about this he and his team immediately jumped to our aide. The sign of a great tour company is their availability to their guests and Michael and his team at Chaska took excellent care to make sure we were put somewhere else - Casa Lola. Terrific!

As a woman traveling alone to a remote part of Colombia I decided to use an agency. I have to tell you KimKim was excellent! Wendy made me feel more than confident and assured me if I needed anything she was just a text away….and she was. Any questions no matter now big or small were welcomed. When plans were delayed due to weather while I was in a remote part of the country she was attentive and made sure I was comfortable as could be during the situation. She absolutely treated me like family.
My guide Manuela in Medellin was a dream. She was so comfortable to be around she made me feel like we were old friends. The amount of knowledge she had about the city, culture and country was amazing. I wish I would have recorded so I could remember every word lol I cannot recommend her enough.
The park 10 hotel where I stayed while in the city was perfect for me. The location in Medellin was fantastic. The restaurant Lussac adjacent the hotel had a wonderful menu and having room service an option made for a great dining experience after a long day of sightseeing. The staff were friendly and their quality of service made it an easy decision to stay there again in the future.
I also went to Nuquí on the coast which was wet, wild a d wonderful. I stayed at LaBayka ecolodge. This is wet county with beautiful black sand beaches. I enjoyed birdwatching from my hammock, saw a sloth through binoculars in the common area, went whale watching and saw baby sea turtles make their way into the sea for the first time. This place was a dream. There was too much to see and soak in. For someone looking for an adventure this was a great place to see soo much beauty in one place. Just expect to be wet as rain and humidity are a part of life there.
The staff was kind and patient with my limited Spanish. They made sure I always was included in activities and checked in to make sure things were ok. The food was simple, clean and wonderful. With 70% of it being grown on the property itself.
So much still to see in Colombia. Manuela painted such a vivid picture in my mind of things yet to see I have to go back.

This is a little belated, but the whole itinerary that Nathalie planned was just incredible. All experiences were very authentic and unique. It felt like they put some real thought into our activities save destinations. Highly highly recommended!

Our trip experience in Colombia was amazing. Michael created literally the perfect itinerary. Alex our tour guide in bogota was so knowledgeable, caring, and very helpful. Our tour in Cartagena Aumerio was so passion on teaching ys all about the history in cartagena, we were able to learn so much from the city thanks to him. Rosario island was beautiful, the staff were so attending to our needs, food was delicious, we met so many great people. Our drivers were also on time. My family had an incredible time in Colombia. I definitely recommend chaska team.
