Best of the Cotswolds Day Trip, Moreton-in-Marsh

Your first stop is Dover's Hill, where a short walk up the grassy slopes rewards you with panoramic views across the surrounding countryside. Pause for longer in Stow-on-the-Wold, another Cotswold market hub with a postcard-pretty High Street lined with independent boutiques, historic inns, and inviting pubs. Don't miss the "Tolkien door" at the medieval church of St Edward's, where the arched entryway flanked by ancient yew trees is rumored to have inspired Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. You'll also have time to grab lunch or a traditional cream tea (not included), or pick up some sandwiches to-go if you're keen to continue exploring. 

Another scenic drive takes you to Bibury, dubbed "the prettiest village in England," where you can stroll past Arlington Row, a postcard-worthy scene of 17th-century weavers' cottages overlooking the River Coln. Then it's on to the final stop of the day in Bourton-on-the-Water, nicknamed the "Venice of the Cotswolds" for its five stone bridges that arc gracefully over the River Windrush. Grab a pint at one of the riverside pubs or get lost in the town's intricate yew maze before looping back to Moreton-in-Marsh in the late afternoon.
