What you'll do

All aboard the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, a volunteer-operated heritage train line that follows a scenic, 14-mile (22 km) route between the village of Broadway and the Cheltenham Racecourse. Choose which station you'd like to start from, then step into a restored carriage, where you'll grab a window seat and settle in for a memorable journey along the beautiful border of Gloucestershire and Warwickshire.

Along the way, you'll follow a painstakingly rebuilt portion of the former Great Western Railway line, passing the tiny Cotswold villages of Toddington, Winchcombe, and Gotherington, and skirting the ruins of a 13th-century Cistercian abbey. An all-day, roundtrip ticket allows you to take your time along the roughly three-hour journey, hopping on and off at each station, exploring charming villages, and grabbing sandwiches or afternoon tea at one of the vintage-style station cafés. Depending on the train, you can also head to the 1950s-style buffet car for refreshments en route.
