Overview

Canoeing the Tortuguero canals is a unique experience, as the area boasts one of the world's most important sea turtle nesting sites. In addition, Tortuguero National Park offers a swathe of mysterious rainforest laced by a network of intricate waterways. This very family-friendly tour departs first by boat from Mawamba Lodge and makes its way to the park's ranger station. There, you'll board your canoe with your guide and head out into the canals.

With your naturalist guide paddling, you'll be able to concentrate on spotting local wildlife. Your guide will also help you discover the park's flora and fauna, pointing out any plants and creatures that may interest you, including almost 200 species of bird, three monkey species, crocodiles, caimans, toucans, sloths, and much more.
