In the morning, you'll depart from Évora to the small town of Alvito, about 35 minutes away. In the afternoon, you'll continue to Viana do Alentejo to immerse yourself in a different part of Portugal's artisanal history: pottery. This town is just 15 minutes away and is one of Portugal's pottery hubs, partly because it was home to the country's first ceramics school: Escola de Olaria Médico de Sousa, established in 1893. Here, you'll meet a master potter and his family, who will teach you about the details of their craft, such as the materials and styles used. During this 3-hour lesson, you'll learn how to throw a piece on the wheel and paint it in the traditional Portuguese style. Once you're done making this one-of-a-kind souvenir, you'll return to Évora.
