What you'll do

Begin your adventure in Bergen by hopping on the historical Fløibanen funicular railway, which has been transporting visitors and locals alike since 1918. With two carriages, each capable of holding up to 120 passengers, you'll enjoy a smooth ascent to Mount Fløyen at 1,050 feet (320 m) above sea level. As you glide upward, the driver, always in the carriage, ensures a safe journey.

Upon reaching the summit, you'll be greeted by beautiful views over the city below and its surrounding fjord landscape. Take a moment to soak in the panoramic vistas before exploring the various attractions that the summit has to offer. You can indulge in a meal or a snack, like a traditional svele pancake, at FløirestaurantenFløistuen Café, or Skomakerstuen Café, or pick up a souvenir at Fløistuen (both a shop and café). For those looking to explore the area further, let your inner child (or actual children) roam free in the large playground or spend a night in The Cone, a modest pinecone-shaped accommodation suspended off the forest floor.

Families and nature enthusiasts will love the opportunities for adventure. Discover the enchanting troll forest, meet friendly goats (they're ridiculously soft), or wander through the vast hiking areas available year-round. Enjoy complimentary canoeing on Lake Skomakerdiket during the summer, or rent a mountain bike for more active exploration. If you have the time, consider walking back down the mountain to fully immerse yourself in the area's natural beauty—a highlight of many visitors. The descent offers different perspectives of the landscape and is a peaceful way to conclude your visit to Mount Fløyen.

Tips for future travelers

Nice views at the top. Food and beverages, walking trails.

I did not do the trails. Just enjoyed the views. I think those who walked around had a more enjoyable time.

Tips for future travelers

Walk one way and ride one way! It is not a long wait but there was a line to ride up.

There are great children activities at the top- petting zoo with goats, playground, troll structures, etc. It is a great place for families to visit.

It was a nice ride up to the top of the mountain to get city views. There is also a playground and troll park at the top to explore. Luckily we had sunshine, would not be much fun in the rain.

This is a must do especially on a clear day! We did not explore the hiking trails, but you could spend hours up here. We particularly loved the cashmere goats who keep the area trimmed up. This would be a great place to sit, have a drink and gaze at the Bergen harbor and the mountain. Get one of the adirondack chairs and enjoy the view. Read more
