Synagogue of Sefrou

Jewish Heritage Tour in Sefrou, Fes

Overview

Enjoy a day trip south of Fes to the city of Sefrou, where you'll embark on a Jewish heritage tour. Sefrou offers an excellent opportunity to observe the coexistence of both Jewish and Muslim communities, as they lived side by side here until the late 1960s.

Sefrou is known as "Little Jerusalem," and at one point, one-third of its population was Jewish. The tour will include visits to the Jewish school and orphanage Em Habanim, the Sefrou Synagogue, the old Jewish quarter (Mellah), and the well-preserved Jewish Cemetary of Sefrou. Finally, you'll meet with a local caretaker at the cemetery, who has a deep knowledge of Jewish culture and history in Sefrou.

Discover more unique experiences in and around Fes.
